Abstract: A method for 3D color printing of an object includes slicing a 3D model of the object, adding color data to slices of the 3D model and printing the slices with a printing block including a plurality of channels. The plurality of channels include channels, each with different colored building material, and a channel with a clear building material. Printing includes dispensing at each target location of a travel of the printing block, building material from two channels of the plurality of channels. The two channels per target location are selected based on the color data.

Abstract: In one example a method of generating a three-dimensional object in a 3D printing system using a fusing agent of a first colour and a build material having a second colour different from the first colour, and a detailing agent, comprises obtaining object model data describing an object to be generated, and determining a first portion of the object to be generated to have the second colour. The method comprises determining object generation instructions to generate the object by defining a gap region of a layer of build material that is to correspond to the first portion of the object to have the second colour on which no agents are to be applied, a band of detailing agent on a layer of build material immediately adjacent to the gap region to define an outer limit of the gap region and therefore a boundary of the first portion of the object, and a fusing agent region on a layer of build material adjacent to the gap region on which fusing agent is to be applied.

Abstract: A process and associated system for creating color effects using extrudable material, such as plastic and metal for example, are presented. Flows of first and second viscous materials of respective colors are provided and then combined in a predetermined pattern to form a stream of combined viscous material. A dynamic mixer is the then used to apply a predetermined dividing, overturning and combining motion to the stream of combined viscous material to partially mix the first viscous material and the second viscous material, such that upon exiting the dynamic mixer, the first material of the first color and the second material of the second color form a color pattern in the stream of combined viscous material. The dynamic mixer has elements configured for acquiring a specific radial orientation in a range of radial orientations that may be varied during the application of the dividing, overturning and combining motion to the stream of combined viscous material to cause variations in the color pattern in the stream of combined viscous material. Sheets of extruded material may be created using such process and system and used in the manufacturing of many different products including, but not limited to, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, garden furniture and many others. In some embodiments, the sheets may be characterized by color bands extending diagonally with reference to a longitudinal extent of the sheet.

Abstract: A printing method for printing a multi-material 3D model comprises the following steps: perform a slicing process on a multi-material 3D object to generate the multi-material object slices and the object slices of a useful object; compute a material-switching point and a retrieving point during the slicing process; print the multi-material object slices of a multi-material 3D model with one of the materials; when print to the material-switching point, switch to another different material and print useful objects with the material used before the material switching; when print to the retrieving point, print the multi-material object slices with the material used after the material switching; and repeat the above steps until completing the multi-material 3D model printing. The present disclosed example prints the useful object via the remaining materials after the material switching which effectively reduces the cost with of multi-materials printing.

Abstract: Apparatus for blending colors for a three-dimensional object printer, includes a mixing chamber, a heating device connected to the mixing chamber for heating up the mixing chamber, and a guiding device including a plurality of color ingredient inlets. Each color ingredient inlet is adapted to receive a color ingredient for a single color. The guiding device is coupled to the mixing chamber such that the color ingredients are adapted to pass through the guiding device to enter the mixing chamber. The guiding device is configured to guide the color ingredients passing through the guiding device such that a vortex of the color ingredients is formed in the mixing chamber and exit via a mixed ingredient outlet. Also shown are a method and a 3D object printer. Effective color blending is provided in a single printing head achieving high definition color output capability by a relatively simple printing head structure.
