    Abstract: An electrical heater assembly and an exhaust treatment assembly. The electrical heater assembly includes a heater body including an array of intersecting walls that form a plurality of channels extending in an axial direction. The intersecting walls and channels together define a honeycomb pattern of cells. A plurality of slots extend from an outer periphery of the heater body and terminate within the heater body. Each of the plurality of slots disconnects some of the cells of the heater body from each other to define a serpentine current-carrying path through the heater body. Each slot comprises a receptacle portion located between opposing portions of the slot. A plurality of slot separators located respectively in the receptacle portions. Each slot separator has dimensions greater than the opposing portions of the slot to provide support to the heater body in all directions perpendicular to the axial direction.

    Abstract: One exemplary embodiment is a vehicle system comprising an engine, an exhaust aftertreatment system including a heating element, an electric machine configured to selectably operate as a motor or a generator, an inverter module including a plurality of inverter phase legs and an auxiliary leg, and an electronic control system in operative communication with the inverter module and the exhaust aftertreatment system. The electronic control system is configured to evaluate whether the electric machine is operating as a generator, selectably operate the plurality of inverter phase legs to rectify AC power received from the electric machine, evaluate whether to heat one or more components of the exhaust aftertreatment system, and selectably operate the auxiliary leg to provide rectified power from the inverter legs to one or more electrical heating elements thermally coupled with the one or more components exhaust aftertreatment system effective to heat the one or more components.

    Abstract: An exhaust gas heater for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine includes a carrier arrangement and a heating conductor arrangement. The heating conductor arrangement is carried on the carrier arrangement and exhaust gas can flow therethrough in a main exhaust gas flow direction. The heating conductor arrangement includes at least two heating conductors arranged following one another in the main exhaust gas flow direction. The carrier arrangement includes at least one carrier element having a fixing region lying radially on the outside relative to an exhaust gas heater center axis and is configured for fixing to an exhaust gas guidance housing. The fixing region at least partially does not radially overlap a radially outer lying conductor region of at least one heating conductor of the heating conductor arrangement in at least one, preferably several circumferential regions.

    Abstract: An electrical heating unit H for introduction into the exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine, in particular upstream with respect to an exhaust gas purification unit, for instance a catalytic converter, which for its operation requires a temperature higher than the ambient temperature, comprises a casing (13) and at least one resistance heating element (14) which is designed as a band and is retained inside the casing (13), wherein the at least one heating band (14) is arranged so that it runs in a meandering pattern and with its flat face parallel or substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the casing (13). The heating unit H also comprises at least one support structure (19, 19.1) which is arranged on the end face relative to the heating band (14) and mechanically connected to the casing (13) and has slot-shaped heating band bearings (27) to retain the heating band (14) inside the casing (13), into which slot-shaped heating band bearings (27) the heating band (14) engages by an edge portion and via which support structure (19) the heating band (14) is electrically insulated from the casing (13).

    Abstract: A heating unit for an exhaust-gas system of an internal combustion engine includes a heating-unit housing for conducting an exhaust-gas in a main flow direction. A plurality of heating elements are arranged in the heating-unit housing and are shaped in a meandering manner. Each heating element has a plurality of plate-like heating sections which follow one another in a heating-element longitudinal direction. The heating sections of each heating element are connected to one another via respective connecting sections. Each heating element has two connection regions which are arranged at a distance from one another. In each connection region, the heating elements are electrically conductively connected to a connection region of a further heating element.
