Disclosed is an air cleaner having independent fluid paths and a home appliance having the air cleaner. The air cleaner includes a front panel having a plurality of air inlets formed thereon for air to flow in from outside of the case, first and second blower devices arranged inside the case to allow air to flow in through the plurality of air inlets, first and second filter units arranged to filter the air flowing in by the first and second blower devices, a first outlet located on the case to release the air, a second outlet formed at a different location from that of the first outlet, a first fluid path formed between one of the plurality of air inlets and the first outlet; and a second fluid path formed between another of the plurality of air inlets and the second outlet.

A composite of a base and an array of needle-like crystals formed on the surface of the base is provided, in which the base side and the opposite side to the base with respect to the array can be isolated in a satisfactory manner. A composite 10 includes a transparent electrode 2 serving as the base, an array 4 of needle-like crystals 3 formed thereon, and a coating film 15 covering the surface of the needle-like crystals 3. The needle-like crystals 3 are made of, for example, zinc oxide, and the coating film 15 contains, for example, titanium oxide. The array 4 includes a first region R1 on the transparent electrode 2 side and a second region R2 on the opposite side to the transparent electrode 2 with respect to the first region R1. A proportion of the cross section of the needle-like crystals 3 in a plane parallel to the surface of the transparent electrode 2 is lower in the second region R2 than in the first region R1, and the surface of the transparent electrode 2 is substantially covered with the needle-like crystals 3 in the first region R1.

A fabric filter bag, a method of making such a bag, and apparatus using such bags, in which the bag is a tube of yarn knit into stitches defining a ground and stitches defining terry loop pile extending from the ground. In accordance with the present invention, such a fabric filter bag, method of making a bag, and apparatus using a bag is improved by the inclusion of a conductive strand for conducting electrostatic charges otherwise accumulating on the fabric filter bag away from the bag so as to suppress accumulation or build-up of such charges.

An electric dust collecting device and an air conditioner having the same are disclosed. The electric dust collecting device includes a first filter unit including a plurality of discharge electrode plates which are spaced apart from each other and have spaces defined therebetween, a high voltage generator electrically connected to all of the plurality of discharge electrode plates, and a second filter unit disposed downstream of the first filter unit in an air flow direction and connected to a ground to cause corona discharge between the discharge electrode plates and the second filter unit, whereby particles electrically charged by corona discharge are collected at the second filter unit. The first filter unit has a simplified structure, and cleaning effect is improved.

A method of producing a filter unit, such as an air/oil separator, having a tubular filter element bonded at one end to an end cap, is proposed. The method includes the steps of: providing a tubular filter element and an end cap; melting a portion of the end cap; and embedding an end of the filter element into the melted portion of the end cap. The melted portion, on cooling, solidifies to bond the tubular filter element to the end cap. The end cap can be formed of thermoplastic containing an electrically conductive filler. The end cap can be formed of a thermoplastic having a melting point of at least 180 C. The method may further include, after the embedding step, a step of forcing melted thermoplastic from the melted portion radially against a side wall of the tubular filter element.

Apparatus and methods for collection and removal of particulate matter, including fine particulate matter, from a gas stream, comprising a unique combination of high collection efficiency and ultralow pressure drop across the filter. The apparatus and method utilize simultaneous electrostatic precipitation and membrane filtration of a particular pore size, wherein electrostatic collection and filtration occur on the same surface.

The filter assembly (also includes a second filter portion located downstream of the first filter portion. The first filter portion and the second filter portion are held directly adjacent one another by means of the deformable rim. The filter assembly further includes a third filter portion located upstream of the first filter portion and consisting of a mesh material. The first filter portion and the third filter portion are held directly adjacent one another by means of the deformable rim. The filter assembly has a tab located on a surface thereof to facilitate removal of the filter assembly from a filter housing or a vacuum cleaner.
