摘要: A method of milling a profile of a railway rail comprises: rotating a milling cutter including a plurality of face mounted cutting inserts mounted about a periphery thereof; milling a railway rail with cutting edges of the cutting inserts rotating in a predetermined plane corresponding to at least a portion of a desired rail profile while controlling the depth of cut of the cutting inserts; traversing the railway rail with the milling cutter while milling the railway rail; and controlling the speed of traverse of the milling cutter along the railway rail.

摘要: An apparatus and method for in-situ milling includes a support and a pair of spaced apart rails attached to the support. The support and rails are mounted between a pair of opposed mill housing wear plate surfaces. A milling assembly is reversibly mounted on the rails in either of a first orientation and a second orientation. In the first orientation, the milling assembly mills one of the wear plate surfaces. The milling assembly is reverse mounted on the rails to the second orientation for milling the other of the wear plate surfaces. This permits the support and the rails to remain in one position between the wear plate surfaces requiring only the milling assembly to be moved to accomplish milling of each of the wear plate surfaces.

摘要: A CNC milling machine comprises a main transmission shaft driven by a motor, an upright shaft provided with a transmission wheel set that is actuated by the main transmission shaft, an engagement device having a main shaft which is provided with a connection member which is in turn provided with an engagement wheel set engaged with the main transmission shaft, and a horizontal shaft provided with a gear set mounted thereon such that the gear set is engageable with the main shaft of the engagement device. The upright shaft is actuated to turn via the transmission wheel set so as to enable an upright milling cutter of the upright shaft to carry out the longitudinal cutting of a workpiece. The horizontal shaft is actuated to turn via the engagement wheel set so as to enable a horizontal milling cutter of the horizontal shaft to carry out the horizontal cutting of the workpiece without having to transfer the workpiece.

摘要: A cutting assembly and an apparatus for self-aligned chamfering of a workpiece are disclosed. The chamfering apparatus includes a mechanism for releasably securing the workpiece in preparation for a chamfering thereof, a cutting assembly, and a mechanism for moving the cutting assembly proximate the securing mechanism between a first position and a second position, wherein the cutting assembly traverses along an edge portion of the workpiece to be chamfered. The cutting assembly includes (i) a guide member having a guide surface; (ii) a blade member mechanically coupled with respect to the guide surface for establishing a desired cutting depth; (iii) a mechanism for applying a resilient tensioning force to the guide member, the resilient tensioning means applying a first tensioning force when the guide member is in a non-chamfer engaging position and applying a second tensioning force when the guide member is in a chamfer engaging position, the chamfer engaging position corresponding to a position of the guide member when the guide surface engages the portion of the workpiece to be chamfered; and (iv) a mechanism for locking the guide member to maintain the chamfer engaging position and the desired cutting depth subsequent to the guide surface no longer being in contact with the workpiece. A method of chamfering is also disclosed.

摘要: A multi-axis machining apparatus including structure for positioning a workpiece in a precise and repeatable manner in relation to a tool bit. The multi-axis machining apparatus includes a main table forming a horizontally disposed upper surface and having an opening for mounting a first tool in an inverted position therein and for projecting a first bit upward through the opening and above said upper surface. The horizontal upper surface has coplanar first and second axes intersecting each other in perpendicular relationship and the opening is centered on a vertical third axis, intersecting the first and second axes in perpendicular relationship therewith. A fence structure may be attached or formed integral to the carriage assembly for guiding movements of a workpiece along the upper surface of the main table. A second table assembly is attachable to the underside of the first table. A carriage assembly may be operatively engaged to the main table for moving the carriage assembly in a direction parallel to the second axis. The carriage assembly may include a carriage operatively engaged therein. A second tool having a second bit oriented in a downward position parallel to the third axis may be mounted to the carriage. A positioner assembly permits variable movement of the carriage assembly and fence structure in a direction parallel to the second axis in a precise and repeatable manner. For use in conjunction with the first tool, other table assemblies may be attached to the carriage assembly for performing machining operations on a workpiece.

摘要: A horizontal insert designed for horizontal insertion in a universal turret milling machine, particularly Bridgeport-type milling machine, to facilitate performance of horizontal milling, drilling, boring and tapping operations, as well as standard vertical machining operations, in one setup. The horizontal insert is characterized by a generally cylindrical quill housing designed for insertion between the bottom column element and top ram element of a Bridgeport-type milling machine or secured to a plate so mounted. In the first embodiment the bottom surface of the quill housing is bolted to the top surface of the column and the upper surface of the quill housing is bolted to the bottom surface of the turret. A quill assembly which terminates in a spindle for mounting milling tools, drill chucks, end mills and the like, is manually or automatically horizontally-extendible from the quill housing and a splined end of the spindle is driven by a motor mounted on a top housing which is mounted to the rear surface of the insert. The reversible spindle is selectively coupled by means of a lever to a gear train located in the quill housing, to transmit torsion from the spindle to a feed pinion gear which advances the quill a selected distance from the quill housing to the workpiece, or retracts the quills from the workpiece into the housing. Alternatively, the spindle can be disengaged from the gear train and the quill advanced from or retracted into the quill housing a selected distance by manually rotating a hand feed wheel on the housing. Forward-reverse and speed control mechanisms are also provided for controlling the direction and speed of rotation of the spindle.

摘要: A program-controlled machine tool is described, for machining workpieces by means of rotary tools which can be brought into engagement with a workpiece under timewise control. The workpiece is disposed on a cross table which rests on a program-controlled rotatable workpiece table which in turn is guided along a first main axis. The tool support region has a vertical support post which bears on its top a translational carriage which is vertically adjustable and is movable in a direction perpendicular to the vertical. Such carriage further bears tool mounts. The mounts comprise a common revolving head the rotational axis of which coincides with the vertical movement axis of the said translational carriage. The revolving head has at least two program-controlled rotatable tool tables the rotational axes of which perpendicularly intersect the rotational axis of the revolving head in a single point. The rotatable tool tables are also program-controlled and bear holding members for various working units, e.g. working spindle means sleeves and/or auxiliary working assemblies, each of which working units is adjustable along another translational axis which is perpendicular to the rotational axis of the particular rotatable tool table which carries the respective working unit.

摘要: A babbit guide plug resurfacing apparatus includes a motorized clamp assembly for holding a circular saw guide in a fixed position so that guide plugs on both sides thereof are exposed, and for moving the saw guide into engagement with an abrading assembly. The abrading assembly comprises upper and lower turntables coupled by a belt to a motor. The turntables, which include cutter heads on their inside surfaces, are separated by a spacer so as to allow the guide plugs to pass between the plates for simultaneous resurfacing which insures uniformity of the smoothness of the surface of each plug.
