Abstract:
A reinforced hydroform member having an outer structural member reinforced by a structural foam supported by the outer structural member. The structural foam extends along at least a portion of the length of the outer structural member. The structural foam is a heat-activated epoxy-based resin. As the foam is heated, it expands and adheres to adjacent surfaces. The preferred structural foam material is commercially available from L&L Products of Romeo, Michigan under the designation L5206, L5207, L5208, or L5209.

Abstract:
A method for repairing a leak in a pipe joint, the joint including a gasket. The method requires a passage to be formed through the wall of the first pipe. A space is then formed in the gasket communicating with the passage. After this, a sealant is injected through the passage into the space thus allowing the fluid to repair the leak.
Abstract:
Damage in a blisk airfoil is machined away to create a notch. A repair is welded in the airfoil to fill the notch. The weld repair is then machined to restore the airfoil to a substantially original, pre-damaged configuration at the repair.

An aftermarket retrofit kit is used to prepare control arm bosses of automotive suspension systems to receive new, replacement ball joints. The kit includes a special cutting tool for forming obtuse threads in the apertures of aluminum suspension system mounting bosses for replacement of spent or used steel ball joints originally pressed-fit into forged aluminum control and steering arms. Since unthreaded apertures of bosses of control and steering arm joints in which the original pressed fitted equipment ball joints may be threaded to receive the new joints, avoidance of having to replace expensive original control and steering arms is made possible by the reuse of such arm parts normally discarded. A separate alignment block is included to assure accurate piloting of the cutting tool. Threading of the control arm bosses can be done on or off of the vehicle, and separate kits are provided for upper and lower control arms.
Abstract:
A gas turbine has a compressor for compressing air as a working fluid, a combustor for producing combustion gas by mixing fuel with the compressed air, and a turbine for generating a rotating force at the time of expansion of combustion gas. The gas turbine further includes a cylindrical liner; a transition piece for transferring the working fluid from the liner to the turbine; an outlet portion of the transition piece, which has a region parallel with a direction of a rotating shaft of the turbine; cooling holes formed in the region so that longitudinal intervals thereof are lengthened; and a picture frame portion provided to secure stiffness at an outlet of the outlet portion.
Abstract:
A tool (20) is used to cut a sample (12′, 52′) from a roof covering (12, 52). The sample (12′, 52′) is inspected. A mastic is placed in the opening in the roof covering (12, 52) from which the sample (12′, 52′) came. The mastic forms a plug (50, 58) which closes and seals the sample opening (46, 56). The sample tool (20) has a lower end cutting edge (40). It also has handle parts (16, 18) which are connectable to the tool body (22). The handle parts are turned to cause a rotation of the tool body (22).
Abstract:
A method for preparing a fuel tank for repairs and verifying the repair work using an apparatus is presented. The apparatus is connected to the fuel tank. The fuel tank is purged of oxygen to a certain level using a gas provided by the apparatus until a level of the oxygen in the fuel tank reaches that level. Openings on the fuel tank are closed to the environment. The fuel tank is repaired while the level of oxygen is maintained in the fuel tank. The gas provided by the apparatus pressurizes the fuel tank to a certain pressure level. The pressure level is maintained for a specified period of time. An inspection of the repaired area of the fuel tank is then performed.

A method of removing and installing two blades and their mounting spindles from the deck of a lawn mower including holding the spindle heads simultaneously against rotation with a wrench have two operative ends and an adjustable connection connecting the operative ends.
Abstract:
A cover for a transmission torque connector having loosened or otherwise damaged bolts is repaired for reuse. One method includes removing a loosened bolt, and plugging and countersinking the bolt hole. The countersunk area on the exterior of the cover provides an area to form a welding bead to permanently seal the whole. The surface is then prepared for welding a stud onto it to complete the repair. In the case where the original bolt is damaged but has not been loosened, the top part of the bolt can be cut off so that the bolt can serve as the plug.
Abstract:
The combination of a lawn mower assembly and a clamp assembly. The lawn mower assembly has a housing defining a cutting chamber, a shaft journalled for rotation in the housing around an axis, and a cutting blade that is selectively a) releasably attached to the shaft to rotate with the shaft in a predetermined path around the shaft axis and b) separable from the shaft as to facilitate reconditioning or replacement of the cutting blade. The clamp assembly includes a first jaw having a first surface and a second jaw having a second surface. The second jaw is movable relative to the first jaw between i) a first relative position wherein the first and second surfaces are spaced from each other a first distance and ii) a second relative position wherein the first and second surfaces are spaced from each other a second distance that is less than the first distance. The second jaw is movable relative to the first jaw between the first and second relative positions by guided movement of the second jaw relative to the first jaw. One of the first and second jaws has a blocking surface thereon. The clamp assembly can be situated in an operative position on the lawn mower assembly wherein, with the second jaw in the second relative position, the first and second jaws captively, grippingly engage the housing and the blocking surface resides in the predetermined path of the cutting blade to thereby prevent free rotation of the cutting blade relative to the housing.
