Abstract:
An environmentally friendly dual lube venturi filter cartridge which has no metallic components. A plastic centertube having a venturi section supports a bypass filter element on standoffs molded into the centertube. An outer concentric full flow filter element surrounds the bypass filter. The full flow filter is supported on a plastic centertube which creates a gap between it and the bypass filter. A first bypass filter endcap both seals the bypass filter and provides standoffs for allowing full flow oil around the bypass filter. The standoffs thus split the full flow which progresses through the primary filter in two paths, a primary path around the bypass filter and into the centertube, and a bypass path through the secondary filter and the venturi. Plastic upper and lower endcaps carry grooves for simple sealing gaskets, a radial seal gasket on the bottom which seals against both the endcap which carries it and a flange in the housing, and an axial seal gasket at the top.

The present invention provides a filter apparatus for use in removing impurities and acids contained in a fluid that includes a particulate filter and an acid-neutralizing filter. Preferably, the particulate filter and the acid-neutralizing filter are positioned within a housing. A conduit having a pressure reduction section is arranged to create a pressure differential across the acid-neutralizing filter such that a portion of the fluid to be filtered by the filter apparatus passes through the acid-neutralizing filter.

Abstract:
An improved combination full flow bypass oil filter is presented where the output of the bypass filter is obtained by non-venturi means and the extremely clean bypass filter output is measurable at all engine oil pressures. The bypass filter output is not blended with the full pass filtered oil until the bypass filtered oil is returned to the engine sump. Measurements have been made of this system that show positive bypass filter output in the range of 5 to 85 PSI engine oil pressure, the output a linear function of the oil pressure coming from the engine.

A dual flow filter unit for the filtration of a pressurized liquid such as oil, comprising a closed housing (10) having an inlet (31), and main and secondary outlets (32, 13) for that liquid. The unit further comprises a main filter element (21) arranged in the housing (10) and having an unfiltered fluid surface exposed to the majority of the liquid flow, the flow through the main filter (21) being directed to the main outlet (32) from the housing (10); and a secondary filter element (17) exposed to a portion of the liquid flow supplied to the housing inlet (31), any flow through the secondary filter being directed to the secondary outlet (13) from the housing. The main filter element (21) offers a low resistance to the flow of fluid therethrough relative to the secondary filter element (17) so that the majority of the flow through the inlet (31) is filtered by the main filter element (21) and the remainder by the secondary filter element (17). This allows better filtration of the liquid without adversely affecting the flow rate or pressure thereof.
Abstract:
Rapid characterization and screening of polymer samples to determine average molecular weight, molecular weight distribution and other properties is disclosed. Rapid flow characterization systems and methods, including liquid chromatography and flow-injection analysis systems and methods are preferably employed. High throughput, automated sampling systems and methods, high-temperature characterization systems and methods, and rapid, indirect calibration compositions and methods are also disclosed, where the polymer sample, solvent, liquid chromatograph column and/or mobile phase eluant is heated to temperatures of at least 75 degrees Celsius during the sample injection or elution process. The described methods, systems, and devices have primary applications in combinatorial polymer research and in industrial process control.
Abstract:
An oil filter assembly has an outer canister in which full flow and bypass flow filtration sections are operatively housed in a nested relationship. Oil forced into the canister has imparted thereto a vortex flow pattern which forces contaminant particles in the oil away from the full flow filter section before the oil passes therethrough. The bypass filtration section is disposed within the full flow filtration section and creates a second vortex flow pattern in the oil which induces a small portion thereof to flow through a bypass filter element while at the same time causing the entire balance of the oil to bypass this filter element and be discharged from the canister after having traversed the filtering portion of only the full flow filtration portion of the filter assembly.

Abstract:
A filter assembly includes a housing having a cylindrical side wall and a first and second end walls at either end of the cylindrical side wall. The first end wall has a fluid inlet port for receiving fluid to be filtered and at least one fluid outlet port for discharging the filtered fluid. The second end wall is easily removable from the housing, and includes a pressure-activated sensing device preferably extending centrally within filter media to an outlet. The filter media can comprise either a single filter element or a pair of nested filter elements, and is supported between the upper and lower end walls. The pressure-activated sensing device includes a piston assembly which is responsive to a pressure drop across the filter media. A first flow path is provided to the upstream side of the piston assembly from the inlet to the filter assembly, while a second flow path is provided to the downstream side of the piston assembly from the downstream side of the filter media. When the fluid pressure the filter media increases, the piston assembly moves to an open position which can provide a signal to an operator that the filter media is clogged with particulate matter. Alternatively, or in addition, the pressure-activated sensing device can include a bypass valve which allows fluid to flow through the piston assembly. Further, the pressure-activated sensing device can also be located transversely to the axis of the housing and exterior to the lower end wall, but still integral therewith.
Abstract:
An oil filter comprising a housing opened at one end, a first separator unit in the housing for removing solid contaminants from the oil and a second separator unit for removing gaseous contaminants. The first separator unit includes a cylindrical filter element and upper and lower end plates attached to the upper and lower ends of the filter element. The second separator unit is disposed in the space defined by the inner periphery of the filter element and between the upper and lower end plates. It includes a chamber arranged to generate a vortical flow of the oil introduced thereof to thereby separate gas-rich oil which gathers in an axially central portion of the chamber, a first outlet for discharging the gas-rich oil and a second outlet for the oil containing little gaseous contaminants, the first and second outlets extending into the housing from the open end thereof.
