    摘要: A symmetrical two-piece waveguide is described herein. The waveguide comprises an upper structure that forms a first symmetrical portion of at least one channel that defines an energy path between an input portion and a radiator portion of the channel. The waveguide further comprises a lower structure that forms a second symmetrical portion of the channel that is symmetrical to the first symmetrical portion about a separation plane when the upper and lower structures are mated. The upper structure further forms the radiator portion that extends orthogonally from an upper surface of the first symmetrical portion opposite the separation plane. The lower structure further forms the input portion that extends orthogonally from a lower surface of the second symmetrical portion opposite the separation plane. By using symmetry, the disclosed waveguide leverages the benefits of a two-piece design while enabling near-lossless channeling of energy without conductive bonding.

    摘要: A dual-mode feed network for an antenna array or combination antenna is provided. Two transmission line structures propagate signals according to two different electromagnetic propagation modes, such as TE, TM, TEM and quasi TEM modes. The two transmission line structures are operatively coupled to different components of the antenna array. One transmission line structure may be a stripline or microstrip, and the other transmission line structure may be a waveguide such as a Substrate Integrated Waveguide. Both transmission line structures may branch to reach multiple elements of the antenna array. The transmission lines may share common features, for example by embedding the stripline within the waveguide.

    摘要: An antenna feed with mode suppression includes a transition section, having a window for connecting to an output port of a waveguide and having inner and outer conductors forming a coaxial waveguide that couples energy from the waveguide into a horizontal TE11 mode in the coaxial waveguide. A polarizer section is coupled to the transition section and generates circular polarization from the horizontal mode of the transition section. A radiator section is coupled to the polarizer and provides an output signal for the antenna feed. The transition section includes an electrical short coupling the inner and outer conductors. The electrical short is disposed adjacent to the window of the transition section. A dielectric block is also disposed between the inner and outer conductors and adjacent to the electrical short along the axis of the coaxial waveguide. A surface of the dielectric block is coated with a thin film sheet resistance.

    摘要: A low complexity/cost beamsteering antenna includes a central line feed affixed to a radial waveguide structure, radiating elements positioned along the circumference of the radial waveguide structure, and a plurality of active elements interspersed along the surface of the radial waveguide structure between the central line feed and the radiating elements. The active elements may comprise PIN diodes or microelectromechanical system (MEMS) components, and may be selectively activated/deactivated by DC switches in order to direct the propagation of an RF signal over the radial waveguide structure in a manner similar to a power divider. As a result, the RF signal may be funneled to selected radiating elements, thereby effectively directionally aiming the main lobe of the emitted radiation pattern to beamsteer the wireless transmission.

    摘要: A broadband antenna element for RF transmission and reception over cellular frequencies. The antenna element is formed of conductive material on a substrate surface of conductive material in the form of a pair of half portions extending in opposite directions to distal tips defining the widest distance of a mouth of a cavity. The mouth converges to reduce in cross-section to a narrowest point at a plurality of different flare angles defined by the edges of the two half portions in between the pair of half portions forming the element. The resulting antenna element radiates and receives a wide band cellular frequencies enabling a single element to serve different providers operating on different frequency bands in the cellular spectrum between 680 MHz to 1900 MHz.

In one aspect, an apparatus for wirelessly coupling with other devices comprises a metallic cover comprising a first metallic portion separated by a first non-conductive portion from a second metallic portion of the metallic portion to define a first slot. The apparatus further comprises a conductor comprising a first end portion electrically coupled to the metallic cover at the first metallic portion and a second end portion crossing the first end portion and electrically coupled to the metallic cover at the second metallic portion. The metallic cover and the conductor form a coupler configured to wirelessly receive power sufficient to charge or power a load of the apparatus from a wireless power transmitter.
