    摘要: An printed circuit board (PCB) assembly and method of assembling the same for a high-speed, short-reach communication link are described that provide a mechanism for transmitting radio frequency (RF) waves from one digital electronic component of the PCB assembly to another, where the second digital electronic component is located either on the same PCB assembly or on a second PCB assembly. The assembly includes a PCB having multiple layers and a digital electronic component supported by the PCB. At least one of the layers defines a channel that confines RF waves therein. An RF antenna in communication with the digital electronic component extends into the channel, and the RF antenna transmits RF signals generated by the digital electronic component into the channel as RF waves or receives RF waves via the channel and conveys corresponding RF signals to the digital electronic component.

The horn has a first end disposed on the receiver and a second end defining an aperture positioned opposite the receiver. The lens is disposed within the aperture of the horn and has a first surface facing inward toward the receiver and a second surface opposite the first surface and facing outward away from the horn. The anti-reflection layer includes a dielectric material and is disposed on the first surface of the lens. Moreover, the anti-reflection layer defines holes arranged in a 50/50 material to void ratio and that have a thickness of a quarter wavelength of a signal received by the antenna.

    摘要: An assembly for confining electromagnetic radiation in a waveguide. The assembly comprises a waveguide, comprising walls surrounding a cavity and an aperture in the walls that opens to the cavity, and a substrate assembly disposed in the aperture. The substrate assembly comprises a substrate comprising an antenna, wherein the antenna is located within the cavity and is configured for transmission of radiation within the cavity. The substrate assembly comprises an integrated circuit (IC) electrically connected to the substrate, where the IC comprises semi-conductor components and a ground plane on one side of the IC. The ground plane is located between the IC semi-conductor components and the antenna. The ground plane is located across the aperture to reduce the area of the aperture and to reflect some of the radiation directed to the aperture back into the cavity.

The feedhorn has an operating bandwidth and the feedhorn provides a maximum of −30 dB cross polarization response over at least 15% of the operating bandwidth. A method of producing a feedhorn for receiving or transmitting electromagnetic radiation includes determining a profile of an inner surface of the feedhorn based on constraints required to achieve a plurality of operating parameters, providing a pre-machined feedhorn having an initial inner surface, and machining the initial inner surface of the pre-machined feedhorn to substantially match the profile determined to achieve the plurality of operating parameters for the feedhorn. The determining the profile includes a constraint for the profile to be a monotonically increasing profile relative to a rotational symmetry axis of the inner surface of the feedhorn going from a narrow end to a wide end of the feedhorn.

    摘要: A structural phased array antenna and method for manufacturing are disclosed. An integrated structural antenna aperture can be used to reduce net weight, cost, and volume where an array of antenna elements are incorporated into a structural member, e.g. in a spacecraft. A structural material layer, such as a structural foam, may be used with the array of individual antenna element cavities machined into the layer. The antenna element cavities are lined with a conductive material, such as plated aluminum. Facesheets may be bonded to the front and/or backside of the structural material layer in order to increase strength and/or stiffness using an RF transparent material. The array of antenna elements may be coupled to filters at the back side of structural material layer.
