摘要: A portable scatterometer and/or an angular radiated light measurement instrument that uses a measurement head which includes a double tapered fiber optic bundle with a concave front face to simultaneously collect partial or full hemispherically scattered light reflected from a point on a surface illuminated by a depolarized, telescopically focused, laser diode source, the light rays being received by each fiber normal to its face. The image of the collected light beams is minified and coupled by the fiber optic bundle into an anti-blooming CID camera with an x-y scanning area array which converts the light beams to electrical signals. In a unique real time, computer-controlled, data acquisition and reconstruction process, a frame grabber a unique algorithm are used to collect over 200,000 points of light reconstruct the data into a 2D or 3D scatter profile and display the results, all within one second. Multiple embodiments of the tapered fiber optic bundle collector are disclosed. Alignment mechanisms provide z-translation, azimuth, and focus adjustments. The measurement unit housing securable to a production line machine for use, such as, a quality control inspection device.

摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring the particle concentration of suspensions, especially suspensions having high particle concentration. Light is directed into the suspension, and light scattered by the particles, preferably back-scattered light, is detected at a first and a second position located at different distances from the position where the light is sent into the suspension. The concentration is then calculated asarctanh (E.sub.f /E.sub.n),or preferably ##EQU1## where E.sub.n is the detected light intensity at the first relatively near position and E.sub.f is the light intensity at the second relatively far position. The intensity of the light directed into the suspension is controlled by means of the relation E.sub.f .multidot.E.sub.n =1. The mean value of E.sub.f and E.sub.n is then compared with 1 in order to determine whether the calculated concentration corresponds to the concentration of the suspension being measured.

摘要: A device for testing components of transparent material for surface irregularities and occlusions which comprises a mechanism for rotatably mounting the component so that the component may be rotated on its axis; a mechanism for generating a light ray which moves linearly so that the light ray can dot-scan the component along a diameter of the component; at least one signal generating device disposed at a predetermined angle to the direction of impingement of the light ray for detecting surface irregularities and occlusions of the component and then generating a signal representative of the irregularity or occlusion; and a signal evaluation device for evaluating the signals produced in the signal generating device. The signal generating device comprises an image forming optical system; an interchangeable mask disposed at the focal plane of the image forming optical system for selecting the image of a plane of the component; and a receiver for receiving the light rays passing the mask and generating a signal representative of the light rays received.

摘要: A fiber optic probe having a sealed, cylindrical housing closed at one end by a transparent window and at the opposite end by a wall through which a plurality of optical fibers extend toward the window. Adjacent the window the fibers are radially and circumferentially spaced about the axis of the housing and converge along lines which intersect one another at a common point on the housing axis that is adjacent or beyond the outer surface of the window. At least one of the fibers transmits light from a source through the window to illuminate a zone of a fluid sample, whereby particles present in such zone scatter light therefrom to the remaining fibers for transmission through the probe housing to light detecting and measuring apparatus.

摘要: A measurement probe is detachably connected to a bio-optical measurement apparatus which performs optical measurement on body tissue. The measurement probe includes two illumination fibers configured to irradiate the body tissue with low coherent light having a short spatial coherence length, and three or more light-receiving fibers configured to receive scattered light at multiple angles. The three or more light-receiving fibers are arranged on a perpendicular bisector of a line segment connecting centers of the two illumination fibers at a distal end surface of the measurement probe.
