Abstract: A ventilation and air conditioning system includes: an outdoor air supply fan; an exhaust fan; and a system controller to control operations of the outdoor air supply fan and the exhaust fan. The system controller includes: a link controller; an exhaust air volume receiver; a disconnection determinator; and a disconnected state supply air controller. The link controller controls the outdoor air supply fan and the exhaust fan in a linked manner. The exhaust air volume receiver receives, from the exhaust fan, an exhaust air volume signal indicating an exhaust air volume of the exhaust fan. The disconnection determinator determines a disconnected state where the exhaust air volume receiver fails to receive the exhaust air volume signal. The disconnected state supply air controller controls the outdoor air supply fan at a predetermined air volume when the disconnected determinator determines the disconnected state.

Abstract: A ventilation shutter has a frame forming the mounting structure for a plurality of louvers that are pivotably mounted so as to move between an open condition to allow ventilation air through the shutter and a shut condition. The ventilation shutter includes at least one connecting rod extending transverse the louvers and a plurality of cranks, where each of the louvers has at least one crank connecting the louver to the connecting rod such that pivoting movement of the louvers between the shut condition and the open condition is synchronized with up and down movement of the connecting rod. A permanent magnet couple interacts with the connecting rod and the frame to provide an active magnetic force that holds the louvers in the shut condition. An electromagnet couple interacts with the connecting rod and the frame to provide an active magnetic force that holds the louvers in the open condition.

Abstract: A system and method for cooling a building using cool fresh outside air is disclosed. When the integrated thermostat is operating during a heating period, the integrated thermostat operates a remote air conditioning unit, such as a furnace, an HVAC unit, an electric baseboard heater, or a heat pump, to heat air provided to the building interior. When the integrated thermostat is operating during a cooling period or a fresh air cooling period, the integrated thermostat compares the indoor air temperature with the temperature of the outdoor fresh air. The integrated thermostat operates a remote fan, such as a whole-house exhaust fan, to draw the cooler fresh air into the building interior in response to the outdoor air temperature being less than the indoor air temperature and/or in response to the indoor temperature being greater than a fresh air cooling set point stored in the memory.
