Abstract: Infinitely variable multi-epicyclic friction transmission system including a main shaft, ball race discs, a splined tube, and twin planetary cone assemblies attached to a planetary carrier and disposed circumferentially around the splined tube. Each twin planetary cone assembly comprises a torque tube and a planetary cone-hemisphere structure comprising a planetary cone integral with hemisphere at its apex, wherein the planetary cone-hemisphere structure rolls inside the torque tube via the hemisphere, and wherein a slant height of the twin planetary cone assemblies is parallel to the main shaft. System also includes a series of spherical planets, a reaction ring disposed around the twin planetary cone assemblies configured to slide along the planetary cone assemblies to vary a gear ratio, and ball gear retaining rings. Each of the ball gear retaining rings is mounted on one of a plurality of ball gears which are mounted on the ball race discs.

Abstract: A disc for controlling tilt angle for a plurality of axles in a ball planetary continuously variable transmission (CVT) is provided. A disc body is formed and pins are inserted to create slots. Each slot can be configured for contact with one end of an axle of a traction planet. The pins may be made from a different material or otherwise have different characteristics or properties than the disc body, allowing greater availability of materials that can be selected for forming the slots. The pins can be simple (such as a straight, cylindrical shape) or complex (including a complex curve of different diameters, multiple surfaces, and the like. A manufacturing process for a disc may include forming a disc body using a first process and then adding or removing material using a second process, then inserting pins into the disc body.

Abstract: A continuously variable transmission includes an input rotor, an output rotor, a plurality of planetary rollers, a guide member, a movable ring, and an elastic member. The input rotor is arranged to rotate about a main axis at a rotation rate before a speed change. The output rotor is arranged to rotate about the main axis at a rotation rate resulting from the speed change. The planetary rollers are arranged around the main axis, and each planetary roller is capable of rotating about a rotation shaft. The guide member is arranged to restrict positions of both end portions of the rotation shaft. The movable ring is capable of rotating about the main axis between the main axis and the planetary rollers. The movable ring is annular, and is capable of moving in an axial direction. The elastic member is capable of expanding and contracting in the axial direction. Each planetary roller includes a first slanting surface, a second slanting surface, and an annular recessed portion or annular projecting portion. The guide member is arranged to hold the end portions of the rotation shaft at different circumferential positions such that each end portion of the rotation shaft is capable of shifting a position thereof in a radial direction with respect to the main axis. The elastic member is arranged to apply a pressure to the movable ring in the axial direction.

Abstract: An infinitely variable transmission (IVT) having a rotatable input shaft arranged along a longitudinal axis of the transmission. In one embodiment, the input shaft is adapted to supply a lubricant to the interior of the transmission. In some embodiments, a stator assembly is coupled to, and coaxial with, the input shaft. The IVT has a plurality of planets operably coupled to the stator assembly. The planets are arranged angularly about the longitudinal axis of the transmission. In one embodiment, a traction ring is operably coupled to the planets. The IVT is provided with a housing that is operably coupled to the traction ring. The housing is substantially fixed from rotating with the input shaft. The traction ring is substantially fixed from rotating with the input shaft. In some embodiments, the IVT is provided with a lubricant manifold that is configured to supply a lubricant to the input shaft.
