Abstract: A kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) is provided. The KERS (1) comprises a first speed-up gear arrangement (12) having an input (10) connectable to a vehicle powertrain. The KERS further comprises a hydraulic variator made up of first and second bent axis motors (20,22) fluidly connected to one another, wherein at least the first motor (20) is a variable displacement motor, and the first motor (20) is connected to an output of the first speed-up gear arrangement (12). A second speed-up gear arrangement (34) has an input connected to the second motor (22). At least one flywheel (52) is connected to an output of the second speed-up gear arrangement (34), where the at least one flywheel is located in a vacuum within at least one flywheel chamber (58).

Abstract: A glue-on attachable flywheel weight adds rotational mass to a flywheel allowing for a vehicle operator to alter the power characteristics of an engine. Different flywheels require different shapes of attachable weights. The attachable weights can be machined to fit a multitude of different flywheels to add the rotational mass. Applying an adhesive secures the weight onto the flywheel and adds the rotational mass in a user-friendly convenient manner.

Abstract: A marine engine has a cylinder block with first and second banks of piston-cylinders that are vertically aligned and extend transversely with respect to each other in a V-shape so as to define a valley there between. A crankshaft is caused to rotate by the first and second banks of piston-cylinders. A flywheel is coupled to the upper end of the crankshaft such that rotation of the crankshaft causes rotation of the flywheel. An alternator is located above the cylinder block and coupled to the flywheel such that rotation of the flywheel operates the alternator.

Abstract: Embodiments of the subject invention are directed to a homopolar motor and its mechanical coupling with a flywheel rotor. The homopolar motor includes a rotor and no additional bearings, shafts, gears, pulleys, etc., are required to couple the the flywheel rotor and the rotor of the homopolar motor. The homopolar motor includes a stator with a stator laminate and a number of stator pole pieces. The pole pieces generate magnetic flux across a first radial gap to rotor assembly to generate torque. Rotor assembly is coupled to and rotates with shaft which in turn rotates the flywheel rotor. The rotor assembly includes a rotor laminate stack and a field coupler. The field coupler has a top portion that rotates with the shaft and a bottom portion that attaches to a housing and remains stationary.

Abstract: A system and method for compensating for torque reaction forces in a medical, apparatus is disclosed. The astern may include a rotary element which rotates about an axis. A contra-rotating flywheel may be driven to rotate about the axis relative to the rotary element, wherein the flywheel is free to rotate and is accelerated and decelerated by a driver which is fixed to the rotary element. Contra-rotation of the flywheel may compensate for torque reaction forces when the rotary element is accelerated or decelerated.

Abstract: A flywheel for use in an automobile between an engine and a clutch assembly is provided. The flywheel is a circular member having an engine side and an opposite clutch side. An aperture is formed in the circular member having an axis, and the aperture is used to operatively attach the flywheel to the engine. A plurality of clutch fins and/or grooves are formed on the clutch side adjacent the outer edge of the circular member and spaced radially about the axis of the aperture of the flywheel. The clutch fins have a face that is generally coplanar with the clutch side of the circular member. The fins and grooves work to cool the internal components of the engine. Optionally, a second set of grooves and fins may be formed on the engine side of the flywheel to further aid in cooling the clutch disc and other engine components.

Abstract: Arc coil springs utilize coil spring wire formed in a substantially trapezoidal or other shape such that when bottomed, the side surfaces of the coil abut and carry the bottoming load. The angles of the sidewalls of the substantially trapezoidal cross section wire are preferably coincident with lines of radius when the spring is installed in an arc in a clutch, damper or flywheel. The radius of the outer surface of the arc coil spring wire is matched to the radius of the inner surface of the guide or housing so that the area of contact is large.
