Abstract: An axle assembly (200) includes a first axle housing (102), a second axle housing (104), a first wheel end (216), a second wheel end (218), and at least one drive shaft (150) extending through the first axle housing (102) and the second axle housing (104) and coupled to the first and second wheel ends (216, 218). The axle assembly (200) also includes a gearbox (210) having a body (240) with first and second portions (242, 244) defining a cavity (246) with the first axle housing (102) coupled to the first portion (242) and the second axle housing (104) coupled to the second portion (244). The axle housing (200) further includes an electric motor (122) coupled to the first portion (242) of the body (240). The gearbox (210) includes a gear train (153) having an input shaft (160) having one end coupled to the electric motor (122) and an output shaft (172) rotatably coupled to the input shaft (160). The gear train (153) further includes a clutch (174) having a shifting fork (178) movable between an engaged state and a disengaged state to couple the output shaft (172) to the drive shaft (150) such that the electric motor (122) drives the drive shaft (150) and to uncouple the output shaft (172) from the drive shaft (150) such that the drive shaft (150) is able to rotate independently from the electric motor (122).

Abstract: A military vehicle includes a passenger capsule having a front end and a rear end, a front module coupled to the front end of the passenger capsule, a rear module coupled to the rear end of the passenger capsule, a generator, and an export power kit. The front module includes a front subframe, a prime mover, a front axle assembly, and a front differential coupled to the front axle assembly. The rear module includes a rear subframe, a rear axle assembly, and a transaxle coupled to the rear axle assembly, the prime mover, and the front differential. The generator is configured to be driven by the prime mover to generate electricity. The export power kit is coupled to the generator and configured to facilitate exporting power off of the military vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicle electric drive apparatus is provided with a single hydraulic pump and left-side and right-side drive units. The left-side drive unit includes a left-side electric motor and a left-side transmission mechanism. The right-side drive unit includes a right-side electric motor and a right-side transmission mechanism. One of rotary shafts of the left-side transmission mechanism and one of rotary shafts of the right-side transmission mechanism constitute a pair of pump-drive rotary shafts. The single hydraulic pump is connected to the pair of pump-drive rotary shafts through respective one-way clutches, and is to be driven by one of the pump-drive rotary shafts that is rotated at a speed higher than the other of the pump-drive rotary shafts, so as to output a hydraulic pressure.

Abstract: A UTV portal axle system is disclosed, including a spindle with a housing for housing input and output drive gears coupled by one or more idler gears. The output drive gear is disposed lower than the input drive gear to provide additional ground clearance to the UTV. The king pin axis angle is substantially the same as that of a stock UTV, while maintaining a scrub radius of substantially one inch or less. This is accomplished by the lower control arm ball joint being located within a recess of the output drive gear. This allows the UTV to be properly controlled when driven at high speeds over rough or uneven terrain. The gears may be interchangeable to allow the gear ratio to be adjusted to be more suitable for use at various driving speeds. A method of changing the gear ratio is also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling a hydromechanical transmission are proposed. In one example, a control method for a hydrostatic unit of a hydromechanical variable transmission (HVT) is presented, comprising controlling the hydrostatic unit via a feedforward control architecture including a non-linear, multi-coefficient model, wherein the hydrostatic unit comprises a hydrostatic pump and a hydrostatic motor. A desired differential pressure of the hydrostatic unit or a desired hydraulic pump displacement may be used as inputs for the model, where the model's output is a pressure difference for a pump control piston coupled to a swash plate of the hydrostatic unit. Use of the non-linear model permits the hydrostatic unit to be controlled based on load, speed, and/or torque, thereby increasing the adaptability of the control system.
