摘要: An apparatus which can transmit torque between the crankshaft or the camshaft of a combustion engine and the input shaft of a variable-speed transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle employs a damper having a rotary input member normally receiving torque from the engine, an output member rotatable with and relative to the input member and normally transmitting torque to the transmission, and a set of arcuate coil springs which yieldably oppose angular movements of the input and output members relative to each other with a first force which increases in response to increasing angular movements of the input and output members relative to each other and with a second force which is generated by centrifugal force and increases in response to increasing RPM of the engine. At least one additional spring is provided to oppose angular movements of the input and output members relative to each other (particularly when the vehicle is coasting) with a third force which increases in response to increasing angular movement of the input and output members relative to each other but is at least substantially independent of the centrifugal force.

摘要: Arc coil springs utilize coil spring wire formed in a substantially trapezoidal or other shape such that when bottomed, the side surfaces of the coil abut and carry the bottoming load. The angles of the sidewalls of the substantially trapezoidal cross section wire are preferably coincident with lines of radius when the spring is installed in an arc in a clutch, damper or flywheel. The radius of the outer surface of the arc coil spring wire is matched to the radius of the inner surface of the guide or housing so that the area of contact is large.

摘要: A torsional vibration damping mechanism (30) in a free standing clutch plate (26) for a vehicle driveline. The mechanism (30) includes composite C-shaped springs (41,42) for attenuating driveline torsionals and transmitting driveline torque, and a viscous damper (48) for controlling the rate of flexing of the springs. The mechanism also includes input and output drives (46,44) for flexing the springs only radially inward. The C-shaped composite springs are formed by removing a center portion of a minor arc of a closed ring comprising a plurality of layers of reinforcing filaments, or by cutting a composite cylinder into closed rings and removing the center portion. The composite springs include expanded end portions (41a,41b,42a,42b or 106b) to facilitate attachment of end brackets (72) to the springs without need of fasteners penetrating the composite.

摘要: An engaging projection is engaged with an engaging recess to connect a pulley and a receiving member to each other so that power is transmitted. The engaging recess deforms with respect to the pulley and the receiving member. During the power transmission between the pulley and the receiving member, an elastic member permits engaging recess to deform, thereby enabling the pulley to rotate relative to the receiving member in a predetermined angular range. In this state, the engaging projection normally abuts against a sliding surface of the engaging recess at a neutral position, and the contact position of the engaging projection and the engaging recess separates from the neutral position in accordance with the increase of the load on the receiving member. As the contact position separates from the neutral position, the inclination angle of the sliding surface with respect to the circumferential direction of the rotary bodies gradually increases.

摘要: A power transmission mechanism includes a first rotary body having an engagement recess, and a second rotary body, which is coaxial to the first rotary body, and an engagement projection. The position of at least one of the engagement recess and the engagement projection changes with respect to the associated rotary body. An elastic member elastically deforms in accordance with force based on a transmission torque during power transmission between the first rotary body and the second rotary body. The elastic deformation of the elastic member permits the position of at least one of the engagement recess and the engagement projection to be changed. Sliding of the engagement projection in the engagement recess permits relative rotation of the rotary bodies within a predetermined angle range.

摘要: A torsion isolator (34) for transmitting torque and dampening torsionals in a driveline. The isolator includes a composite c-shaped spring (48) disposed in an annular chamber (44) of a housing (38,40) filled with torque converter fluid. The spring transmits driveline torque and attenuates torsionals. The spring also functions as a fluid displacement piston by dividing the chamber into radially inner and outer volumes (44a,44b) which vary inversely in volume in response to torque changes flexing the spring. Rapid flexing of the spring increases the fluid pressure in the decreasing volume and thereby dampens or reduces the rate of spring flexing or rebound.

摘要: When power is transmitted from a pulley (32) of an engine (E) to a receiving member (35) of a compressor, a power transmitting arm (42) is elastically deformed by force generated by transmission torque. The power transmitting arm (42) thus permits an engaging recess (43) to change its position with respect to the receiving member (35). Accordingly, the pulley (32) and the receiving member (35) are permitted to rotate relative to each other in a predetermined angular range with a roller (39) sliding in the engaging recess (43) while rolling in the engaging recess (43) in a contact state.

摘要: A torsional vibration damper or torsionally elastic coupling comprises an inner portion, an outer portion, and radial leaf spring assemblies extending between the inner and outer portions. Each leaf spring assembly is clamped in a clamping area between adapters at one end of the leaf spring assembly and includes two leaf springs fixed to the outer portion at the one end and having their opposite ends engage in axial grooves of the inner portion. The two leaf springs protrude radially inwards from the clamping area up to the opposite ends engaged in the axial grooves and, to reduce wear phenomena and to improve the load-bearing capacity of the leaf springs for torque transmission, they define a free clearance of movement from the clamping area to the axial grooves.

摘要: Improved performance of arc coil springs by stress reduction when they are bottomed out is achieved by forming the coil spring wire in a substantially trapezoidal or other shape such that when bottomed, the side surfaces of the coil abut and carry the bottoming load which is distributed over a comparatively large surface area. The angles of the sidewalls of the substantially trapezoidal cross section wire are preferably coincident with lines of radius when the spring is installed in an arc in a clutch, damper or flywheel. The radius of the outer surface of the arc coil spring wire is matched to the radius of the inner surface of the guide or housing so that the area of contact is large, thereby distributing the outwardly directed spring force over a large area, reducing the force per unit area and improving lubrication retention on the contacting surfaces.
