Abstract: A road vehicle comprising: an internal combustion engine; an electric starter motor; a high-voltage electric circuit provided with a first storage system; a low-voltage electric circuit provided with a second storage system and directly connected to the electric starter motor; an electronic DC-DC power converter, which connects the low-voltage electric circuit and the high-voltage electric circuit to one another; and a control unit configured, in the presence of a turned-on condition of the road vehicle and when the internal combustion engine is off, to activate the electronic DC-DC power converter so as to transfer power to be at least partially supplied to the electric starter motor from the high-voltage electric circuit to the low-voltage electric circuit only in case of a cold-start condition of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: In an example, a vehicle diagnostic system is disclosed. The vehicle diagnostic system includes a first DC-DC converter having an input and an output and a second DC-DC converter having an input and an output. The output of the first DC-DC converter is connected to the input of the second DC-DC converter at a first node, and the output of the second DC-DC converter is connected to the input of the first DC-DC converter at a second node. The vehicle diagnostic system includes a battery connected to a vehicle load and the first node and a redundant power source connected to the second node. The vehicle diagnostic system includes a control module that is configured to initiate operation of the first DC-DC converter and the second DC-DC converter to cause current re-circulation between the first DC-DC converter and the second DC-DC converter.

Abstract: A voltage supply unit is described, provided with a first output adapted to supply a first voltage to a first load and provided with a second output adapted to supply a second voltage to a second load. The voltage supply unit includes a first battery stack, a second battery stack and an electronic control unit, wherein the electronic control unit is adapted to regulate the energy state of the first battery stack to a first energy state, and to regulate the energy state of the second battery stack to a second energy state, where the first energy state differs from the second energy state. Power characteristics of the voltage supply unit can be optimized by allowing the energy states of the first and the second battery stacks to differ.

Abstract: A voltage supply unit for a vehicle is described, the voltage supply unit having a first output adapted to supply a first voltage to a first load and a second output adapted to supply a second voltage to a second load. The second voltage is obtained by a DC/DC converter powered by the first voltage, where the low voltage side of the DC/DC converter is connected to the second output and the high voltage side of the DC/DC converter is connected to the first output. Two different voltages can thereby be supplied by the use of one battery.

Abstract: An electrical system for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine with start/stop capability includes a primary battery connectible to an engine starter motor; a secondary battery, an alternator, and an electrical load in parallel with one another and selectively connectible in parallel with the primary battery by a charge switch; in parallel with the secondary battery, a DC/DC converter in series with a third electrical energy source; and a bypass switch operable to selectively bypass the DC/DC converter. The bypass switch allows for selective bypassing the DC/DC converter and charging/discharging of the third electrical energy source during start/stop operation, to ensure a sufficient voltage level over the additional vehicle electrical loads when the internal combustion engine and consequently the alternator are not running.

Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to swiftly start up an engine in a range in which electrical equipment having electric power supplied thereto by a battery is not reset, even in cases when the battery is insufficiently charged and the battery is deteriorated. An engine start-up device according to the present invention starts up an engine by transmitting, to the engine, the rotary force of a direct-current motor driven by a battery. The engine start-up device is provided with: a battery-voltage acquisition unit for acquiring the battery voltage of the battery; a target-current-value calculation unit which calculates, on the basis of the battery voltage acquired by the battery-voltage acquisition unit, a target current value for a motor current to be supplied from the battery to the direct-current motor; and a motor-current control unit for controlling a switching element which is connected to the direct-current motor, and through which the motor current flows, such that the motor-current value of the motor current approaches the target current value.

The first electric machine may be a low voltage starter motor or integrated starter-generator. The system and method may use the first electric machine when the engine stop position is within a specified range of positions relative to a piston top dead center position associated with higher cranking torques.

Abstract: A power management system for a hybrid vehicle including an engine includes a vehicle power bus distributing power from a battery to vehicle loads. A capacitor includes one of a plurality of supercapacitors and a plurality of ultracapacitors. A starter/generator controller communicates with the capacitor and the battery. A power management module is configured to supply current from the capacitor to the starter/generator controller during cranking of the engine; and supply current from the battery to the starter/generator controller during the cranking of the engine. The power supplied by the battery is greater than or equal to 2% and less than or equal to 20% of a total power supplied to the starter/generator controller during the cranking of the engine.
