Abstract: A fuel injector is provided. The fuel injector is operable to inject fuel at extremely high pressures which creates very small droplet sizes, allowing for efficient self-ignition of the fuel and allows for clean, efficient combustion due to the small droplet sizes. The fuel injector uses pressure from within a combustion chamber to actuate the spraying of fuel from the injector, thereby solving many problems experienced by typical fuel injectors and eliminating many problem-components of prior art fuel injectors.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel injector, in particular a common-rail injector (1), comprising an injector housing (2), in which a nozzle needle (8), which is arranged in such a way that the nozzle needle can be moved in a reciprocating manner, is arranged in a high-pressure chamber (6) in order to open and close at least one injection opening (5), which nozzle needle bounds a control chamber (20) by means of one end face and interacts with a nozzle body seat (10) by means of the other end face in order to open and close the injection opening (5). The nozzle needle (8) has a first sleeve-shaped supporting element (14), to which force is applied in the closing direction of the nozzle needle (8). In addition, the nozzle needle (8) has a second sleeve-shaped supporting element, which surrounds the nozzle needle (8) and which is arranged in the direction of the end face of the nozzle needle (8) that is close to the control chamber. The second supporting element (16) is arranged at a distance from the first supporting element (14) axially in the closing direction of the nozzle needle (8). At least one of the stop surfaces (33, 34) of the first (14) sleeve-shaped supporting element or of the second (16) sleeve-shaped supporting element that face each other has at least one cut-out (36).

Abstract: A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The fuel injector is installable in a cylinder head bore of a cylinder head of the engine and has a body region arranged to be received within the cylinder head bore, and a head region arranged to extend outside the cylinder head bore to protrude from the cylinder head when the injector is installed in the cylinder head bore. The injector includes a first valve needle arranged to control the injection of a gaseous fuel from a first outlet, a second valve needle arranged to control the injection of a liquid fuel from a second outlet, a gaseous fuel inlet for admitting the gaseous fuel to the injector, and a liquid fuel inlet port for admitting the liquid fuel to the injector. The gaseous fuel inlet is disposed in the body region of the injector, and the liquid fuel inlet port is disposed in the head region of the injector. The injector can also include an internal accumulator volume so that an external fuel rail is not necessary.

Abstract: A system for detecting valve seating in a valve system such as a fuel admission valve system includes seat detection circuitry coupled with a low-side driver circuit in solenoid actuator circuitry for the valve system. The seat detection circuitry includes a voltage probe for sensing voltage in the solenoid actuator circuitry, delay circuitry, and a comparator coupled with the delay circuitry and the voltage probe and having an output dependent upon change in the sensed voltage over time. A timing of voltage changes is observed to enable valve seating detection.

Abstract: A fuel system that in at least some implementations includes a carburetor having a fluid passage, a solenoid, a valve, a driver circuit and a control circuit. The valve may be moved by the solenoid between an open position permitting fluid flow through the fluid passage and a closed position at least partially inhibiting fluid flow through the fluid passage. The driver circuit and control circuit are communicated with the solenoid to contribute to providing power to the solenoid and controlling actuation of the solenoid. The driver circuit and control circuit provide a first magnitude of power to the solenoid to initially change the solenoid from its closed position to its open position and a second magnitude of power to maintain the solenoid in its open position wherein the second magnitude of power is less than the first magnitude.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine has a water-cooled intercooler cooling intake air turbocharged by a turbocharger. The intercooler has an HT intercooler into which HT cooling water passing through a cylinder block is introduced and an LT intercooler into which LT cooling water lower in temperature than the HT cooling water is introduced and the LT intercooler is arranged to abut against an intake downstream side of the HT intercooler. A target LT temperature is set to a high temperature-side target value in a case where a temperature of the HT cooling water flowing into the HT intercooler is lower than a target HT temperature correlated with warm-up completion and the target LT temperature is set to a low temperature-side target value in a case where the temperature of the HT cooling water is equal to or higher than the target HT temperature.
