Abstract: A foldable paper-based substrate coated with primer coat and top coat. Primer coat includes a wax-free aqueous dispersion wherein a dry film thereof has a flexibility of at least 1100% for a film thickness from about 1.0 to about 2.5 mm. Top coat is blocking resistant and includes an aqueous dispersion of a polymer providing water resistance, grease or oil resistance, heat resistance, odor barrier, moisture barrier and/or heat sealability to the paper-based product. The top coat aqueous dispersion is characterized in that a dry film thereof has a flexibility of at least 570% for a film thickness from about 1.5 to about 2.5 mm. A process for preparing the coated foldable paper-based substrate includes applying the primer coat to the surface of the paper-based substrate, applying the top coat and drying the coats. The primer coat may be dried before application of the top coat.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a barrier film for a paper or paperboard-based packaging material, said barrier film comprising: a substrate; a vacuum coating layer having a thickness in the range of 1-500 nm disposed on the substrate; and a protective coating layer comprising a crosslinked water-soluble polymer disposed on the vacuum coating layer. The present invention further relates to a paper or paperboard based packaging material and containers comprising the barrier film, and to a method for manufacturing the barrier film.

Abstract: A heat sealable paper-based substrate is provided with at least the first surface covered with at least one primer coat and at least one topcoat over the primer coat, wherein: the primer coat is formed from a substantially wax-free aqueous dispersion of at least one polymer or copolymer, has a coefficient of thermal expansion equal to or less than about 200 μm/(m·° C.) for at least one operating temperature, and has a complex viscosity of at least about 80000 poises at a heat seal temperature; the topcoat has a different composition than the primer coat and is formed from an aqueous dispersion of at least one thermoplastic polymer or copolymer, and has a complex viscosity of at least about 3000 poises at a heat seal temperature. The heat sealable paper-based substrate can be used to make articles to contain goods such as cold or hot beverages or food products.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present disclosure provides a smoking article including a smoking material portion which is wrapped with a smoking material wrapper, a filter portion which has an upstream end combined with the smoking material portion and is wrapped with a filter wrapper, and a tipping paper which wraps around the filter portion and at least a portion of the smoking material portion so that the smoking material portion and the filter portion are combined, wherein a design printing layer, an overprint (OP) coating layer, and a sweetener coating layer are disposed on a surface of the tipping paper.

Abstract: A coating composition for a corrugated paper board is described. The corrugated paper board includes an inner liner sheet and an outer liner sheet adhered to opposite sides of a corrugated medium. The coating composition includes a pre-coat layer and a topcoat layer. The pre-coat layer includes an ink fixer agent and a pigment, and is disposed on one or both of the liner sheets. The topcoat layer is disposed on top of the pre-coat layer to form an ink receiving layer. The topcoat layer includes a wax and is devoid of the ink fixer agent.

Abstract: The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a polyvinyl alcohol, a cationic salt, and water. The polyvinyl alcohol can have a weight average molecular weight from about 50,000 Mw to about 250,000 Mw. The cationic salt can be present in an amount of at least 15 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition. The polyvinyl alcohol and cationic salt together can make up at least 30 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition.

Abstract: A method of producing a printed electronic device on a thin PDMS film which includes coupling a first layer of a water-soluble polymer to a substrate and drying the first layer of the water-soluble polymer. The method further includes coupling a second layer of a crosslinkable PDMS polymer to the first layer of the water-soluble polymer and curing the second layer of the crosslinkable PDMS polymer to form the thin PDMS film. The method also includes printing one or more functional layers on the thin PDMS film and drying the one or more functional layers on the thin PDMS film to form the printed electronic device coupled to the substrate.
