Abstract: Methods are provided for detection of a target cell type within a cell population, and compositions are provided comprising cells and an indicator that indicates the number of cells of the target cell type in the cell population. Examples are provided in which these methods are used to detect human embryonic stem cells within a differentiated cell population with exquisite sensitivity. Differentiated cells produced from embryonic stem cells can be characterized by these methods before transplantation into a recipient, thereby providing further assurance of safety.

Abstract: A kit comprising two reagents for conducting two different Assays to measure a zinc-activated enzyme in a bodily fluid. The assay results are utilized to obtain a relative zinc-activated enzyme activity value that can be correlated to tissue zinc levels. A more specific embodiment utilizes two paired reagents for conducting an A Assay and a B Assay that measure different alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities in a urine sample to obtain a Relative Renal Alkaline Phosphatase Activity (RRAPA) value. The RRAPA value can be correlated to zinc levels in renal tissue.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for assessing a status of a wound of a patient, comprising the steps of i. determining a concentration of one or more inflammatory markers in a sample from the wound, wherein the sample comprises or consists of wound fluid and the one or more inflammatory markers may indicate an inflammation within the wound, ii. determining a concentration of one or more bacterial markers in the sample, wherein the one or more bacterial markers may indicate a colonization of the wound with metabolically active bacteria, iii. assessing the status of the wound based on the concentrations of the one or more inflammatory markers and the one or more bacterial markers, wherein the status of the wound is assessed as being inflamed or not inflamed and as being colonized with metabolically active bacteria or not colonized with metabolically active bacteria. This diagnostic method allows a reliable, specific and detailed assessment of the status of the wound.

Abstract: Methods of stratifying a subject having or at risk for developing adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) into diagnostically or clinically useful subclasses are provided.
