摘要: The invention concerns a process and modular system for producing formic acid from a source of carbon dioxide. The process according to the invention comprises (a) a carbon capture step wherein a source of carbon dioxide is contacted with an alkaline solution to obtain a solution comprising carbonate and/or bicarbonate; optionally (b) subjecting the solution comprising carbonate and/or bicarbonate to alkaline water electrolysis, wherein carbonate present in the solution comprising carbonate and/or bicarbonate is converted to bicarbonate and H2O is converted into H2 and O2; (c) subjecting the solution comprising carbonate and/or bicarbonate to a hydrogenation step in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a solution comprising formate; and (d) subjecting the solution comprising formate obtained in step (c) to bipolar membrane electrodialysis to obtain a concentrated formic acid solution and a recovered alkaline solution, wherein the recovered alkaline solution obtained in step (d) is recycled back to step (a). The concentrated formic acid solution obtained from step (d) may be subjected to a hydrogenation step in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to obtain a concentrated formaldehyde solution.

摘要: The present application pertains to methods for making metal oxides and/or citric acid. In one embodiment, the application pertains to a process for producing calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, or both from a material comprising calcium and magnesium. The process may include reacting a material comprising calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Separating, concentrating, and calcining may lead to the production of oxides such as calcium oxide or magnesium oxide. In other embodiments the application pertains to methods for producing an alkaline-earth oxide and a carboxylic acid from an alkaline earth cation-carboxylic acid anion salt. Such processes may include, for example, reacting an alkaline-earth cation-carboxylic acid anion salt with aqueous sulfur dioxide to produce aqueous alkaline-earth-bisulfite and aqueous carboxylic acid solution. Other useful steps may include desorbing, separating, and/or calcining.

摘要: A calcium carboxylate is prepared by reacting water, calcium oxide, and a compound of formula (I):
wherein R is a C1-C3 alkyl and R1 is a C1 or C2 alkyl. The reaction solution is heated to remove an amount of a co-product from the reaction solution. The calcium carboxylate may be recovered in a solid form from the reaction solution.-

摘要: The present application pertains to processes producing oxides using a weak acid intermediate. In one embodiment a material comprising calcium carbonate is reacted with a solution comprising aqueous carboxylic acid to form a gas comprising carbon dioxide and a solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate. The solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate is reacted with sodium sulfate to form a solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate and a solid comprising calcium sulfate. The solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate is reacted with sulfur dioxide to form sodium sulfite and an aqueous carboxylic acid. The sodium sulfite is separated from said aqueous carboxylic acid and reacted to form a solid comprising calcium sulfite which is decomposed to form calcium oxide and sulfur dioxide.

摘要: Provided is a chiller and system that may be utilized in a supercritical fluid chromatography method, wherein a non-polar solvent may replace a portion or all of a polar solvent for the purpose of separating or extracting desired sample molecules from a combined sample/solvent stream. The system may reduce the amount of polar solvent necessary for chromatographic separation and/or extraction of desired samples. The system may incorporate a supercritical fluid chiller, a supercritical fluid pressure-equalizing vessel and a supercritical fluid cyclonic separator. The supercritical fluid chiller allows for efficient and consistent pumping of liquid-phase gases employing off-the-shelf HPLC pumps. The pressure equalizing vessel allows the use of off-the-shelf HPLC column cartridges. The system may further incorporate the use of one or more disposable cartridges containing silica gel or other suitable medium. The system may also utilize an open loop cooling circuit using fluids with a positive Joule-Thompson coefficient.
