Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling and selecting the ratio of calcium silicate to silicon dioxide in a resultant calcium oxide product produced from naturally occurring limestone including silicon materials. Moreover, processing of these calcium oxides into calcium hydroxides (hydrated lime) typically reflects the relative ratios of the feed calcium oxide so as to incorporate the adjusted ratio.

Abstract: Systems and methods for using calcium oxide as a carbon dioxide capture tool. The calcium oxide is repeatedly formed from calcium carbonate and is reacted with calcium dioxide back to calcium carbonate where liberated calcium dioxide from calcination of the calcium carbonate is done in a flash calciner and liberated carbon dioxide is captured using a different carbon capture methodology. This method allows for carbon dioxide capture at a location where other methodologies would not be useable and where the stable and generally safe nature of calcium carbonate allows for efficient transport of captured carbon dioxide.

Abstract: This invention discloses a calcination process to produce high purity CO2 from solids containing CaCO3 which operates cyclically and continuously on the solids, arranged in a packed or a moving bed, and wherein each cycle comprises a first step where the combustion at atmospheric pressure of a fuel in the bed of solids containing CaCO3 heats them up to 800-900° C. and a second step wherein a vacuum pressure between 0.05 and 0.5 atm is applied to extract pure CO2 from the solids containing CaCO3 while cooling them by 30-200° C. Said combustion can be carried out directly with air, oxygen enriched air or O2/CO2 mixtures when the process is applied to the calcination of a continuous flow of limestone in a moving bed shaft kiln. The process is also applied to calcine CaCO3 formed in reversible calcium looping processes comprising a carbonation reaction step to form CaCO3 from CaO.

In one embodiment a material comprising calcium carbonate is reacted with a solution comprising aqueous carboxylic acid to form a gas comprising carbon dioxide and a solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate. The solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate is reacted with sodium sulfate to form a solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate and a solid comprising calcium sulfate. The solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate is reacted with sulfur dioxide to form sodium sulfite and an aqueous carboxylic acid. The sodium sulfite is separated from said aqueous carboxylic acid and reacted to form a solid comprising calcium sulfite which is decomposed to form calcium oxide and sulfur dioxide.

Abstract: The disclosure discloses a method for preparing calcium oxide using multistage suspension preheater kiln. The steps of the method are: (1) the limestone powder is fed to the multistage suspension preheater kiln for preheating to 800° C. to 900° C.; (2) A preheated material is fed to a decomposition furnace, and calcined at 900° C. to 1100° C. for 25 s to 35 s; (3) A calcined material is fed to a rotary kiln, and calcined at 1100° C. to 1300° C. for 25 to 35 minutes, and finally cooled to obtain calcium oxide.

Abstract: The present application pertains to methods for making alkali hydroxide, or alkali carbonates, or alkali bicarbonates, or alkaline—earth sulfates. In one embodiment, a material comprising an alkaline earth is converted to an alkaline earth sulfite or bisulfite and reacted with an alkali sulfate to form an alkaline earth sulfate and alkali sulfite or bisulfite. The alkali sulfite or bisulfite is converted into an alkali hydroxide, or an alkali carbonate, or an alkali bicarbonate. In another embodiment, ammonium carbonate or ammonium bicarbonate is reacted with an alkali sulfate, to form ammonium sulfate and an alkali carbonate or alkali bicarbonate. A material comprising an alkaline earth is converted to an alkaline earth sulfite or bisulfite and reacted with the ammonium sulfate to form an alkaline earth sulfate and ammonium sulfite or ammonium bisulfite. The ammonium sulfite or bisulfite is regenerated into ammonia, or ammonium hydroxide, or ammonium carbonate, or ammonium bicarbonate.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for manufacture of biocide products are described. The biocide properties arise from the caustic calcined powder, from carbonates such as such as magnesite and dolomite, and from hydroxides such as brucite. The method of manufacture is based on the production of high surface area oxide particles using an indirectly heated counterflow reactors for specifically calcining the carbonates and the hydroxides without significant sintering. The biocide products may be a powder or a hydrated slurry. A hydrated slurry is preferred for agricultural applications as a spray. For aquaculture applications, the products have a preferred particle size distribution to impact the aquatic and benthic ecosystems, and a Ca/Mg ratio that promotes the growth of the cultivates species when applied as a powder or a slurry. For applications such as a marine paint, the powder product or the slurry product is mixed with various agents to form a setting coating, and is applied to the infrastructure that is otherwise subject to biofilm growth.
