Abstract: In certain embodiments described herein, a heated line forming system includes a heating coil system configured to produce a heated line on a surface of a metal part. The heated line forming system also includes an air knife cooling system configured to maintain a dry area for the heated line, and to direct a coolant (e.g., cooling water, liquified gases such as liquid argon, solidified gases such as carbon dioxide snow, and so forth) around the heated line via a spray mechanism such that the coolant does not flow or splash into the heated line on the metal part. In certain embodiments, the heated line forming system includes multiple induction coils arranged along a line and spaced a short distance apart, but which, when operated simultaneously together, form a heated line on a surface of a metal part.

Abstract: An energy-dissipating cover for covering a component sensitive to mechanical impulse includes a sheet of selected ferrous or aluminum alloy, the sheet having a top surface, a bottom surface, an outer perimeter, an overall area within the outer perimeter and a nominal thickness of no more than 2.5 mm. The sheet is configured for connection with one or more external structures at a plurality of connection points within the outer perimeter, wherein the overall area comprises a plurality of supported areas and at least one unsupported area. Embossments are formed within the at least one unsupported area and extend outward from the bottom surface. The embossments are shaped, sized and arranged so as to limit orthogonal deflection of the sheet from a mechanical impulse directed normal to the bottom surface of the sheet at the plurality of embossments.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and method for forming a final hollow body from a metal strip. A forming system may include a forming station, a joining station, an inline heater, and a hydroforming station. Forming the final hollow body from the metal strip may include receiving the metal strip at the forming station and bending the metal strip to a desired cross-section with the forming station and such that longitudinal edges of the metal strip are abutting. In some aspects, the forming station includes at least one roller. The method may include welding the abutting longitudinal edges together as a seam region via the joining station and to form an intermediate hollow body. The method may include heating the seam region of the intermediate hollow body with the inline heater and hydroforming the intermediate hollow body to the final hollow body with the hydroforming station.

Abstract: A multi-water-channel hot stamping die includes an upper die base and insert, a lower die base insert. Abstract: Systems and methods of non-contact tensioning of a metal strip during metal processing include passing the metal strip adjacent a magnetic rotor. The magnetic rotor is spaced apart from the metal strip by a first distance. The systems and methods also include tensioning the metal strip through the magnetic rotor by rotating the magnetic rotor. Rotating the magnetic rotor induces a magnetic field into the metal strip such that the metal strip is tensioned in an upstream direction or a downstream direction. In other aspects, rotating the magnetic rotor induces a magnetic field into the metal strip such that a force normal to a surface of the metal strip is applied to the metal strip.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a press-formed product includes a heating step, a transportation step, and a pressing step. At the heating step, a sheet-shaped heat storage member 5 and a sheet-shaped workpiece W1 placed above the heat storage member 5 are heated by a heating device 14 while overlapping in the direction normal to the sheet surfaces of the workpiece W1. At a first transportation sub-step, the heat storage member 5 and the workpiece W1 placed above the heat storage member 5 are transported from the heating device 14 to a lifting location while overlapping in the direction normal to the sheet surfaces of the workpiece W1. At a second transportation sub-step, the workpiece W1 placed above the heat storage member 5, when at the lifting location, is lifted upward by a transportation device 46 and transported to a pressing location on a press machine 20. At the pressing step, the workpiece W1 is processed by the press machine 20.
