摘要: Porous biocompatible structures suitable for use as medical implants and methods for fabricating such structures are disclosed. The disclosed structures may be fabricated using rapid manufacturing techniques. The disclosed porous structures has a plurality of struts and nodes where no more than two struts intersect one another to form a node. Further, the nodes can be straight, curved, portions that are curved and/or straight. The struts and nodes can form cells which can be fused or sintered to at least one other cell to form a continuous reticulated structure for improved strength while providing the porosity needed for tissue and cell in-growth.

摘要: An implant is provided for use in an ankle joint between reconditioned end surfaces established on a distal end of an upper tibia bone and an opposing lower talus bone. The implant comprises a substantially porous rigid component adapted to be anchored against the upper tibia reconditioned end surface and the lower talus reconditioned end surface. The component defining an opening therethrough. An intramedullary nail is configured to pass through the opening in the component when the nail is driven through the talus and into the tibia.

摘要: An endoprosthesis for replacing the ankle joint includes a lower component which is configured to be connected to the ankle bone, an upper component which is configured to be connected to the shin bone, and an intermediate part which forms a slide joint both with the lower and upper components. The intermediate part, which is wedge-shaped in sagittal section, is provided in order to compensate for anatomical or surgical irregularities. The upper component can also be wedge-shaped in frontal or sagittal section.

摘要: A soft, expandable, implantable device sized for spacing between small bones comprising a first smooth surface on which a first small bone may slide. Implant (700) includes an opening (704) (passage) extending through the device for promoting fibrotic development through the opening from a direction from both thumb metacarpal (202) and trapezium (204). Passage (704) is optionally distally positioned from a one-way inflation valve (706) included inside an inflation port (702) substantially limiting possible damage to the device due to the insertion pressure of an expansion fluid. An inflation cannula and/or needle may be attached to inflation port (702) and inflation valve (706) for introducing the expansion fluid into the device. Implant (700) is inserted in a deflated mode and is positioned so that thumb metacarpal (202) abuts distal side (703) of the device when expanded and trapezium (704) abuts proximal side (701). Both distal side (703) and proximal side (701) include a smooth surface for allowing relative movement of thumb metacarpal (202) and trapezium (204) with respect to device (700).

摘要: An apparatus and method of distributing a load to a cartilage defect repair plug is provided. A load is applied to a first articulation layer. The load is distributed to a second layer and the load is transferred in the normal direction to the first density of subchondral bone. The load is distributed to a third layer and the load is transferred in the normal direction to a second density of subchondral bone. The load is then distributed to a fourth layer and the load is transferred in the normal direction to a third density of subchondral bone.

摘要: Disclosed herein is processed dermis graft for use in orthopedic surgical procedures. Specifically exemplified herein is a processed dermis graft comprising one or more bone blocks having a groove cut into the surface thereof, wherein said groove is sufficient to accommodate a fixation screw. Also disclosed is a method of processing dermis that results in a dermis derived implant suitable to replace a tendon or ligament in a recipient in need thereof. Other compositions and applications of a dermis derived implant, and methods of manufacture and use, are disclosed.
