The instrument having a hand-held portion, a drive mechanism movably coupled to the hand-held portion, and a plurality of actuators operatively coupled to the drive mechanism for moving the drive mechanism in at least two degrees of freedom relative to the hand-held portion. The instrument also includes a tracking device for tracking the instrument and a working portion removably coupled to the drive mechanism by a coupling assembly. The system further comprises a navigation system for determining a position of the working portion and a bone to be cut during the medical procedure and a control system in communication with the actuators and configured to control the actuators to actively position the working portion such that the working portion is substantially maintained on a plane.

摘要: A composite material for use, for example, as an orthopedic implant, that includes a porous reinforced composite scaffold that includes a polymer, reinforcement particles distributed throughout the polymer, and a substantially continuously interconnected plurality of pores that are distributed throughout the polymer, each of the pores in the plurality of pores defined by voids interconnected by struts, each pore void having a size within a range from about 10 to 500 μm. The porous reinforced composite scaffold has a scaffold volume that includes a material volume defined by the polymer and the reinforcement particles, and a pore volume defined by the plurality of pores. The reinforcement particles are both embedded within the polymer and exposed on the struts within the pore voids. The polymer may be a polyaryletherketone polymer and the reinforcement particles may be anisometric calcium phosphate particles.

摘要: An apparatus for positioning a patient during surgery includes a surgical table frame having a longitudinal dimension, two or more longitudinal rails that are laterally spaced from a centerline between the longitudinal rails and defining a generally planar surface of the surgical table frame, and at least one rotatable support mounted on the surgical table frame for supporting a portion of a body of the patient when resting thereon the at least one rotatable support having a support surface that is substantially planar and generally parallel to the generally planar surface of the surgical table frame. The at least one rotatable support enables positional adjustment of the portion of the body of the patient when resting thereon by rotational movement of the at least one rotatable support to displace the supported body position in one of first and second directions of rotation to thereby allow for manipulation of the patient's anatomy to maximize access to a surgical site of interest.
