The inventive compositions develop interpenetrating polymer networks, which may form core-shell type structures, and are characterized as having enhanced mechanical and adhesion properties.

    摘要: A method for the preparation of sulfonated polymer compositions wherein water dispersible isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymers are reacted in the presence of aqueous polyvinyl dispersions which may contain active hydrogen atoms. The invention is further directed to a water-based sulfonated polyurethane polyvinyl hybrid latex wherein a sulfonated polyurethane is used as a seed for the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a method for preparing the same. The inventive compositions develop interpenetrating polymer networks or may form core-shell type structures, and are characterized as having enhanced mechanical and adhesion properties.

    摘要: A process for preparing poly(urethane/urea) prepolymers and aqueous poly(urethane/urea) dispersions (PUDs) therefrom, the poly(urethane/urea) polymers having high heat resistance and good water resistance. The method employs a water soluble volatile organic solvent, such as acetone, at a level of 0.1-5%, based on final dispersion weight, a level which does not require removal for purposes of flash point considerations. The method includes the steps ofreacting in the presence of a water soluble volatile organic solvent at a level corresponding to no more than 5% by weight of the final dispersion, a polyisocyanate component comprising a diisocyanate, with a polyol component to produce an isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer the polyol component providing both carboxylate groups and sulfonate groups;dispersing the isocyanate terminated prepolymer in aqueous media;reacting said dispersed isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer with at least one amine functional chain extender or chain terminator compound to thereby form said poly(urethane/urea) polymer;neutralizing the carboxylate and sulfonate groups of said isocyanate terminated prepolymer with an alkali hydroxide or a tertiary amine prior to, or simultaneous with, said reaction of said prepolymer and said amine functional chain extender or terminator;wherein the method is performed without a solvent distillation step.

    摘要: Aqueous dispersion adhesives of anionic polyurethanes which have high heat resistance and low activation temperature, even when employed without addition of a crosslinker. The polyurethane is the reaction product of an isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer, and water. The polyurethane prepolymer is the reaction product of a polyol component and a diisocyanate component, the polyol component including:a sulfonated polyester polyol,a hydroxy carboxylic acid of the formula:(HO).sub.x R(COOH).sub.ywherein (R) represents a straight or branched, hydrocarbon radical containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and x and y represent values from 1 to 3, and optionally,a low molecular weight aliphatic diol having a molecular weight of from 60 to 400a non-sulfonated polyol,and the diisocyanate component being selected from the group consisting of aromatic diisocyanates, isopherone diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate and mixtures thereof. The dispersions are prepared by mixing prepolymer and water at a temperature of at least 60.degree. C. for sufficient time to fully react the isocyanate groups in a prepolymer self-extension reaction with water, typically at least 0.5 hour. The dispersions of the invention provide higher strength adhesive bonds than identical prepolymer dispersions extended with diamine chain extender, instead of water, after dispersion.
