    Abstract: A vacuum packaged conformable insulation assembly may be installed in a cavity before the vacuum in the insulation assembly is released. The insulation assembly includes a compressible batt of mineral fibers such as fibrous glass wool. During manufacture, the batt is encased in a gas-impervious envelope. The envelope is vacuum-sealed to retain the batt in a compressed state. The envelope may be provided with opening structures for selectively releasing the vacuum in the envelope. The envelope is sufficiently large to permit the batt contained therein to fully recover when the vacuum is released. According to a method of the present invention, the envelope is placed in a cavity to be insulated, and then the envelope is ruptured to allow the batt to expand to cause the insulation assembly to conform to the cavity.

    Abstract: An insulation product comprises an elongated blanket of fibrous insulation material having a facing on one major surface, the facing extending beyond the edges of the blanket to form opposed flanges, the flanges having first reinforcement fibers extending longitudinally along the outer edge zones of the flanges, and the flanges having intermediate zones positioned inwardly of the outer edge zones, and provided with second reinforcement fibers of a lesser density so as to provide a visual indication of the boundary between the outer edge zones and the intermediate zones of the flanges.

A method of forming an aerosol of flake-like aluminum particles having ameters in the range of 2 to 20 microns and thicknesses of less than 3/10 micron wich comprises feeding into a hot, high velocity gas stream a suspension of said particles in a hydrocarbon oil, the temperature of said gas stream being sufficient to quickly vaporize said hydrocarbon oil thereby forming a mixed stream of hot gases, hydrocarbon oil vapors and said aluminum particles, and discharging said mixed stream into the atmosphere.

    Abstract: A faced fibrous insulation having a mat facing on one or more surfaces of a fibrous insulation material is provided. The mat facing provides improved surface quality, high and controlled adhesion, and is easily manufactured. The mat facing of the present invention includes a pre-applied adhesive that is heat activated to provide adhesion to the fibrous insulation. The mat facing may be input into the glass fiber forming section of a fibrous insulation production line. Alternatively, the mat facing may be applied to the uncured pack prior to curing or applied to the cured fibrous insulation.
