    Abstract: A glass fiber mat contains between 68% and 90% glass fibers and between 10% and 32% binder by weight of the mat. The binder contains between 2% and 90% polymer modified asphalt and between 10% and 98% thermosetting resin by weight of the binder. The polymer which modifies the asphalt is selected from thermoplastic and/or thermoset polymers. A preferred thermoplastic polymer is selected from reactive thermoplastic polymers and/or thermoplastic elastomers. The binder is preferably applied to the glass fibers in the form of a blend of thermosetting resin and an aqueous emulsion of polymer modified asphalt. The aqueous emulsion is prepared by combining between 5% and 75% asphalt, between 2% and 20% polymer selected from thermoplastic and/or thermoset polymers, between 25% and 95% water, and between 0.5% and 5% surfactant by weight of the aqueous emulsion.

    Abstract: The invention provides an improved facing (1) for a gypsum wallboard (22) that has a single layer (2) of nonwoven substrate (3) having about 40-80% of glass staple fibers (4) and about 50-15% of polymeric fibers (5), and wherein the ratio of the diameters of the glass fibers (4) and the polymeric fibers (5) is between about 1.5-3:1. A hydrophilic binders is disposed in the substrate (3) in the form of a porous film (10) that extents throughout the substrate (3) so as to provide the substrate, having only the binder therein, with a porosity of between about 150-450 cfm/sq. ft.     Abstract: A fire-resistant core for use in a combustible fire-rated building panel (1), such as a fire door, has a wood product-containing solid structural member (20) with a density of between about 30 and 60 lbs. per cubic foot and a thickness between about {fraction (1/16)} inch and two inches. At least one layer of fire-resistant composite (21) is attached to at least a lateral surface (22) of the structural member (20). The composite has an inorganic, non-woven fibrous web (25) with a thickness of from about 5 to 50 mils. A web binder is substantially uniformly dispersed throughout the web (25). A substantially continuous coating (27) is on at least a lateral surface (28) of the web (25). The coating is of particulate vermiculite (29) and has a thickness of from about 0.5 to 10 mils and the add-ons of the vermiculite to the web are from about 10% to 50%.
