Abstract:
A system for applying preshaped self-stick products to selected substrates includes a roll of preshaped self-stick products on a common carrier, a conveyor line for advancing a plurality of substrates, a dispenser including a remover for selectively removing the preshaped self-stick products from the common carrier and dispensing the preshaped self-stick products onto the substrates, a controller for controlling an advancing speed of the conveyor line and for indexing the dispenser, and a pressure roller for applying pressure to the self-stick products, thereby fully bonding the self-stick products to the substrates.
Abstract:
An adhesive is applied to a material under compression such that the adhesive penetrates the material when the material is a porous material (e.g., a fiberglass batt). Upon release from being compressed, the material returns to nearly its original size and shape and some of the adhesive penetrates into the material a given distance. Many mats of the material bearing the adhesive at selected locations can be placed on a common carrier for easy dispensing using a dispenser. The common carrier can be refurbished for reuse.
Abstract:
An insulation assembly for a forced gas unit comprises a facing layer and a porous insulation layer joined together by an adhesive. The facing layer includes pressure-balancing and non-pressure-balancing regions. Perforations are formed in the facing layer after the facing layer and the insulation layer are joined together and after the adhesive is cured. The perforations allow gas to flow through the facing layer so as to adequately balance the static pressures acting on the exposed and non-exposed surfaces of the facing layer.
Abstract:
Our unique process applies pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive to fiberglass insulation with improved adhesion to the insulation surface and the adjoining substrate. As opposed to the typical spray or bead extrusion methods, the preferred embodiment applies a ribbon of adhesive to the blanket and pulls it into the insulating glass with a vacuum. The adhesive penetrates the glass and becomes an integral part of the insulating blanket.
Abstract:
A method for applying adhesive on a porous substrate with improved bonding between the adhesive and the substrate. The adhesive is applied on a surface of the substrate. The applied adhesive is impinged with a fluid such as air to force a first portion of the adhesive to flow and penetrate the substrate while a second portion of the adhesive remains on the surface.
Abstract:
A method of forming an insulation product includes heating a thermoplastic material to a softened condition, and applying the thermoplastic material to a blanket of fibrous insulation material to form a laminated insulation material comprising a layer of the thermoplastic material bonded to the fibrous insulation material. The laminated insulation material is heated to soften it and molded to form it into a desired shape, and the molded laminated insulation material is cooled to form an insulation product.
