Abstract: An electrowetting display device comprising a first fluid; a second fluid immiscible with the first fluid; a first support plate having: a surface adjoined by at least one of the first or second fluids, and a first electrode. The device further comprises a second support plate; a second electrode in electrical contact with the second fluid; and a third electrode. The device comprises a protrusion formed as part of at least one of the first support plate or the second support plate. The protrusion has an elongate shape extending from one to the other of the first or second support plates. The protrusion comprises a protrusion surface formed of a material which, without a voltage applied, is less wettable for the first fluid than the surface of the first support plate.

Abstract: Subject matter disclosed herein relates to arrangements and techniques that provide for improving contact angle measurement of a liquid droplet on an interface. An apparatus for measuring contact angles of a liquid droplet on a substrate comprises a platform configured to support the substrate and a camera configured to capture images of a liquid droplet on the interface. The apparatus further comprises multiple light sources to illuminate the liquid droplet along multiple direction and multiple optical paths to direct light illuminating the liquid droplet to the camera.

Abstract: A display apparatus comprises an electrowetting picture element with a first support plate with a first support plate portion comprising a layer substantially non-transmissive for light and second support plate portion substantially non-absorbing for light. A display controller is configured to control a display effect of the electrowetting picture element between a dark and light display effect, and, responsive to input data corresponding to the dark display effect, output at least one signal to a driver corresponding to the dark display effect. The driver is configured to, responsive to the at least one signal output by the display controller, apply a first, non-zero, voltage to the electrowetting picture element to switch a first and a second fluid of the electrowetting picture element to a first configuration with the first fluid and the second fluid in contact with a first surface of the first support plate portion and the first fluid in contact with a second surface of the second support plate portion.

Abstract: A method comprising: treating a surface to change a surface energy of the surface, in dependence on at least one first parameter value of respectively at least one surface treatment control parameter which provides a surface treatment environment for treating the surface. The method further comprises: applying a first liquid part on a first area of the surface, the first liquid part having a meniscus with an edge contacting the surface; determining a first contact angle; determining, based on the first contact angle, at least one second parameter value of respectively the at least one surface treatment control parameter; and changing the at least one surface treatment control parameter based on the at least one second parameter value.
