Abstract:
Disclosed is a battery interconnected illumination device and system. The system includes one or more illumination devices wired into a dedicated circuit with a single location housing a DC power backup source, such as a rechargeable DC battery. The DC power backup source may be replaceable or rechargeable with DC current from an AC-DC transformer-rectifier, a photovoltaic cell, or other means. An electrical relay within the system provides a current to the dedicated circuit by selecting between the line-voltage alternating current source and the DC power backup. A light source of the illumination device is mounted on a mounting surface, such as a ceiling or building wall, by a mounting plate which forms a gap between the light source and the mounting surface. When activated, the light source shines light onto the mounting surface, illuminating the space with low-glare indirect reflected light.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are disclosed for rapid detection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a sample. In some embodiments, the methods comprise depleting a biological sample of beta-1 transferrin by contacting the sample with a sialic acid-specific lectin bound to a solid support, followed by subjecting the beta-1 transferrin-depleted sample to a lateral flow immunoassay. The methods can be used to detect CSF comprised by a sample in under one hour. Furthermore, the methods can detect CSF in a biological sample such as a plasma sample of a volume as small as about 10 μl.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a rechargeable battery interconnected smoke detector system of one or more smoke detector(s) wired into a dedicated circuit with a single location housing a DC power backup source, such as a rechargeable DC battery. The DC power backup source may be replaceable or rechargeable with DC current from and AC-DC transformer, a photovoltaic cell, or other means. Electronic relays within the system provide a current to the dedicated circuit by selecting between the line-voltage alternating current source and the DC power backup.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an alarm device system with simultaneous AC/DC power. The system includes of one or more alert devices wired into a dedicated circuit with a single location housing a DC power backup source, such as a rechargeable DC battery. The DC power backup source may be replaceable or rechargeable with DC current from an AC-DC transformer-rectifier, a photovoltaic cell, or other means. A dedicated circuit is energized with a composite current to provide continuous, uninterrupted DC backup power, upon which line AC is superimposed. AC and continuous DC backup are simultaneously provided to a system of detection and alert devices, such as smoke alarms, electrically coupled to the dedicated circuit.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a battery interconnected detection and alert device system with building structure vibrational alert. An electrical relay within the system provides a current to the dedicated circuit by selecting between the line-voltage alternating current source and the DC power backup. When activated, the detection and alert device generates a distinctive pulsed vibrational alert transmitted through the building structure to beds and other furniture resting on the floor, and additionally transmitted through the air as pressure waves which are perceived by hearing-impaired and other persons alerting them to a possible emergency situation.
Abstract:
A method and computer program for facilitating back office check conversion in a retail establishment, such as during reconciliation of cash drawers. The method broadly includes the steps of retrieving first check data from a point of sale system; imaging the check to capture second check data; comparing the first and second check data to confirm that they are substantially identical; determining whether the check is eligible for automated processing; and, if so, adding the image of the check to an electronic file for subsequent transmission of the check data to a financial institution. The method may also include allowing for scheduling automatic resubmission of a returned check. The method may also include maintaining a database of the check data, and allowing for accessing and searching the database for particular check data via an electronic network.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for facilitating an online auction of a plurality of items. The method includes determining an item ranking to each of the items to be auctioned in the online auction. The method includes dynamically receiving bids from a plurality of users, where each bid includes a payment value representing an interest of purchase for at least one item from among the plurality of items. The method further includes dynamically determining a bid ranking of each bid from the plurality of users. The bid rankings are determined based on a function of the payment value corresponding to respective bid. The method further includes determining a winning bid for each item from among the bids received from the users. Once the winning bid is determined, the method further includes determining a mapping of the items and a winning bid for each of the items.
