Abstract: Described herein is a broadband haptic system for a controller of a controller system to provide enhanced haptic functionality. A control, such as a trackpad, of the controller may include a cover, a circuit board disposed behind the cover and coupled to the cover, a haptic actuator mounted to the circuit board, and a spring disposed behind the cover, the spring being coupled to the cover and mounted to a housing of the controller. The haptic actuator is configured to vibrate and the spring is configured to deflect bidirectionally in response to a vibration of the haptic actuator. Furthermore, the haptic actuator has a first resonant frequency, and the control has a second resonant frequency different than the first resonant frequency to provide a broadband haptic system for the controller.

Abstract: An electronic apparatus includes an electric motor, driver circuitry to drive the electric motor, a temperature sensor to detect a temperature of the electric motor, and one or more processors. The one or more processors control the driver circuitry to drive the electric motor according to a predetermined voltage signal to cause the electric motor to stall and generate heat, receive information about the temperature of the electric motor detected by the temperature sensor while the electric motor is stalled, and maintain a temperature of the electric motor below a threshold temperature value while the electric motor is stalled based on the information about the temperature of the electric motor detected by the temperature sensor while the electric motor is stalled.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to hearing assistance devices that can control other devices based on hearing assistance device events and/or status. In an embodiment, a hearing assistance system includes a hearing assistance device that can include a control circuit, a microphone in electrical communication with the control circuit, an electroacoustic transducer for generating sound in electrical communication with the control circuit, and a power supply circuit. The hearing assistance device can be configured to initiate sending a hearing accommodative command to a separate controllable device upon occurrence of a hearing assistance device event. The hearing assistance device event can be raised by detection of at least one of the hearing assistance device not being worn by the subject, the hearing assistance device in a not-in-use operating state, the hearing assistance device entering a recharging mode, and the hearing assistance device entering a shut-down sequence. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: A system and method is provided including a wearable alarm system that senses a user's movement during sleep in order to determine the user's sleep state and then awakens the user when the user is experiencing light sleep in order to improve the user's sleep experience. The alarm system receives a latest wakeup time, a user movement threshold trigger, and a begin-analysis time offset and divides the time represented by the begin-analysis time offset into a plurality of intervals. The alarm system uses a wearable accelerometer that compares the user's movement to the predetermined user movement threshold and to determine when a minimum number of threshold movements have been detected in two subsequent time intervals to initiate a haptic and visible alarm to awaken the user.

Abstract: An assistive device and method for non-visually discerning a three dimensional (3D) real-world area surrounding a user, includes a haptic feedback interface. The assistive device receives input to establish a mapping of a plurality of objects within a proximity range to at least one haptic element of the plurality of haptic elements in a defined region of the haptic feedback interface. Further, the assistive device merges two or more nearby relevant objects in the plurality of objects as one object so as to map the one relevant object to a corresponding haptic element of the set of haptic elements in the touch-discernible feedback. Furthermore, the assistive device adjusts sizes of the plurality of objects to map the plurality of objects with a set of haptic elements of the plurality of haptic elements while merging the two or more nearby relevant objects.
