Abstract:
A borate ester represented by one of the following formulae: wherein each R1 is independently hydrocarbyl, a hydrocarbyloxy or a hydrocarbylthio group or both R1 on the same phosphorus atom taken together form a heterocyclic group; each X1 and X2 is independently an oxygen or sulfur; and each R2 is independently a hydrocarbylene group. These reaction products are useful as lubricant additives for oil-based and water-based functional fluids. These materials act as anti-wear, extreme pressure and friction modifying agents.
Abstract:
The hydrogen sulfide emission of oil-soluble sulfurized organic compounds is reduced by utilizing a hindered amine and optionally a carboxylic acid or acid anhydride in effective amounts.

Abstract:
A process is described for the separation and recovery of isocyanate monomers from isocyanate concentrates which leaves a residue which is liquid and burnable. The process for the separation and recovery of isocyanate monomers from isocyanate concentrates formed in the production of isocyanates and comprising a volatile isocyanate monomer and by-products comprises the steps of: (A) preparing a mixture comprising (A-1) the isocyanate concentrate; and (A-2) an oil solution comprising; (A-2-a) a major amount of hydrocarbon oil, and (A-2-b) a minor amount of at least one ashless dispersant; and (B) heating the mixture to an elevated temperature at reduced pressure whereby isocyanate monomer is distilled and recovered leaving a liquid residue. The presence of the oil solution in the mixture facilitates the distillation of the isocyanate concentrate, generally improves the yield of distilled isocyanate monomer, results in a residue which is liquid and easily removed from the distillation apparatus, and the liquid residue can generally be burned without difficulty.
Abstract:
Lubricating and functional fluid compositions are described which comprise at least one oil of lubricating viscosity and an extreme-pressure and friction-modifying amount of(A) at least one phosphite ester characterized by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a straight-chain hydrocarbyl group and R.sup.2 is a branched-chain hydrocarbyl group. The invention also relates to compositions which comprise the combination of such phosphite esters as represented by Formula I and various sulfur-containing compositions. The compositions comprising said combinations also are useful in lubricating and functional fluid compositions including lubricating oils and greases. Aqueous systems containing the phosphite esters represented by Formula I as well as combinations of phosphite esters with sulfur-containing compositions also are described.
Abstract:
Reaction products of 5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride O,O-dialkyldithiophosphate adduct of the formula ##STR1## have been found to be beneficial additives for functional fluids used in the machinery of motorized vehicles. These additives are effective extreme pressure agents and antiwear agents as well as antioxidants for use in such functional fluids as lubricating oils including automatic transmission fluids and hydraulic fluids.
