Abstract:
Broadly the invention provides for a deinkable toner composition, an image made with the deinkable toner, and a method for making the toner including a coloring agent; a thermoplastic polymer; and a protein. In another embodiment the toner includes a coloring agent and a thermoplastic polymer where the protein has been incorporated into the polymer itself. In typical embodiments the protein is derived from soybeans but may be from other plant or animal sources. Typically the toner has a positive triboelectric charge of between about 10 to about 40 microCoulomb/g, or a negative triboelectric charge of between about 10 to about 40 microCoulomb/g.
Abstract:
The invention also relates to a fuel cell system comprising: a fuel processor for producing hydrogen from a fuel; and a fuel cell stack including a plurality of polymer electrolyte membranes and a plurality of electrodes; where the polymer electrolyte membrane comprises a proton conducting hydrocarbon-based polymer membrane, the polymer having a backbone and having acidic groups on side chains attached to the backbone. The invention also relates to methods of removing contaminants from the fuel cell electrode.
Abstract:
A susceptor composition that can bond two or more layers or substrates to one another and that can be used to coat or cut a substrate. The susceptor composition is activated in the presence of radio frequency (RF) energy. In one embodiment, the susceptor composition of the present invention comprises a susceptor and a carrier. The carrier and susceptor are blended with one another and form a mixture, preferably a uniform mixture. The susceptor is present in an amount effective to allow the susceptor composition to be heated by RF energy. In a preferred embodiment, the susceptor also functions as an adhesive. The susceptor is an ionic or polar compound and acts as either a charge-carrying or an oscillating/vibrating component of the susceptor composition. The susceptor generates thermal energy in the presence of an RF electromagnetic or electrical field (hereafter RF field).

This invention relates to a polymer electrolyte membrane comprising a proton conducting hydrocarbon-based polymer membrane, the polymer having a backbone and having acidic groups on side chains attached to the backbone. The invention also relates to a polymer electrolyte membrane comprising a proton conducting hydrocarbon-based polymer membrane having a phase separated morphological microstructure. The invention also relates to a polymer electrolyte membrane comprising a proton conducting membrane, the membrane comprising a basic material in combination with an acidic material selected from acidic hydrocarbon-based polymers, acidic hydrocarbon-based oligomers, and blends thereof.
Abstract:
The invention provides for production of nanoparticles dispersed in polymers where the nanoparticles include metals and metal oxides/sulfides that provide enhanced properties (e.g. higher refractive index) to the material. The nanoparticles are typically formed in situ within the polymer. Typically the nanoparticles are in the form of nanocrystals.
Abstract:
The invention provides for structural composites made from biomaterials such as wood products, plant fibers and the like; and/or a non-biomaterial having free —OH groups; a thermoplastic resin such as a polyolefin; coupling agents such as a thermosetting resin or a second thermoplastic resin; a blocked catalyst, a crosslinker and other functional additives may be used.
