Abstract:
A machine designed to grind the rotor blades of aeronautical engines includes a bench with a sliding table which holds the rotor supports. The rotor supports include a side stand point and a side stand counterpoint, both of which are combined with a bridge frame over which the rotor is suspended. The stands have elastic joints which have associated optional blocking mechanisms that are controlled by the machine's CNC control. The table has sliding supports which also include mechanisms for optional blocking. When the blocking mechanisms of both the elastic joints and the table supports are utilized, a high precision balancing and rectifying operation is achieved.
Abstract:
An oscillating spindle sander having a spindle rotatably mounted in a cabinet. An external end of the spindle is adapted to receive a sanding drum. An upper cam pulley is fixedly attached to the spindle and a lower cam pulley is rotatably attached to the spindle within the cabinet. The upper and lower cam pulleys have face-to-face annular cam surfaces having complementary sinusoidal contours with diametrically opposite lobes and diametrically opposite valleys. The upper and lower cam pulleys have a toothed rim connected by individual drive belts to a common drive pulley rotated by an electric motor. The number of teeth on the toothed rims of the upper and lower cam pulleys are different, causing the upper and lower cam pulleys to rotate relative to each other. The annular cam surfaces cause the upper cam pulley and the spindle to be oscillated in a vertical direction in response to the relative rotation between upper and lower cam pulleys.
Abstract:
A wafer polishing apparatus has a wafer chuck for holding a wafer with a surface to be polished directed upward, the wafer chuck being rotatable by a wafer chuck rotation motor; a pair of nozzles for supplying slurries used as polishing solutions to the wafer; and a polishing head for holding a polishing cloth pad which is smaller in diameter than the wafer. The polishing head is rotated in the same direction as the wafer chuck by a polishing head rotation motor and is also reciprocally moved along the surface of the wafer to be polished by an arm driving motor. The wafer polishing apparatus also has a polishing head load adjusting air cylinder for pressing the polishing cloth pad against the wafer by way of the polishing head.
Abstract:
A grinding machine provided with a spindle rotating under the influence of a cantilever mounted rare earth permanent magnet motor. Hydrostatic fluid film bearings are provided between the ends of the spindle and a bronze bearing to support the spindle in such a manner so as to eliminate wear. A single oil reservoir is used to supply oil to the hydrostatic bearings, as well as to the cooling jacket of the motor.
Abstract:
A pneumatic shaft assembly of machine tool has a housing, a sleeve lodged securely in the housing, and a shaft received in the sleeve. The sleeve is provided with an annular gas chamber and the two sets of balancing chambers in communication with the annular gas chamber. Each of the balancing chambers has a plurality of circular bores of identical diameter. The housing is furnished with an opening, which communicates with the annular gas chamber and permits the compressed gas to pass therethrough to enter the annular gas chamber, from which the compressed gas is directed to flow to the circular bores of the balancing chambers so that the compressed gas is uniformly distributed via the circular bores to a clearance formed between the shaft and the sleeve so as to reduce the friction between the shaft and the sleeve at such time when the shaft rotates or moves axially in relation to the sleeve.
Abstract:
A holder for rotary material removing tools which are used in machine tools has a housing with two coaxial sections which can be held end-to-end by a set of male coupling elements provided in one of the sections and extending into a groove of the other section. The other section carries a shaft or spindle which transmits torque to a material removing tool, and the other section is separable from the one section when the male coupling elements are extracted from the groove by discrete fluid-operated motors which can move the male coupling elements against the opposition of stressed coil springs. The tips of the male coupling elements bear against the other section in operative positions of the male coupling elements to thereby urge an end face of the other section against an adjacent end face of the one section.
Abstract:
A spindle stock unit for surface grinding machines includes a spindle head, and a spindle assembly having a spindle body rotatably supported by a pair of axially spaced radial fluid bearings in the spindle head and positioned in place by a pair of axially spaced thrust fluid bearings in the spindle head. To minimize thermal displacement of the spindle assembly in an axial direction, the spindle body is made of crystallized glass of low coefficient of thermal expansion.
Abstract:
The shaft of a dressing tool for grinding wheels is rotatable in two spaced-apart sets of roller bearings each of which is mounted in the radially extending leg of a discrete housing section. The two sections are connected to each other by two packages of leaf springs which extend radially of and are disposed at one side of the shaft and allow for uninterrupted thermally induced changes in the length of the shaft while preventing appreciable radial movements of the two sets of bearings relative to each other. One radially extending leg is integral with a third leg which is spaced apart from and is parallel to the shaft and is connected with the other radially extending leg by the two packages of leaf springs.
Abstract:
A device for honing workpieces. The device includes a rotatable and axially reciprocating honing tool which is guided by an upper and a lower end section in corresponding bearings of a workholding fixture, and also includes a drive rod between the honing tool and a machine spindle. This drive rod is flexible in the radial direction, which prevents out-of-balance at high rotational speeds of the honing tool as a result of excessive mass and excessive play in pivot bearings, while the associated uncontrolled vibrations are also prevented.
Abstract:
A grinding unit especially adapted for use for grinding with a robot and in automatic machines. The unit is designed with a grinding wheel on an axially displaceable shaft, which is urged in a direction towards a surface to be ground by a spring. The grinding pressure is determined by this spring and the position of the grinding wheel is determined by the level of the grinding surface. The mass of the parts which are displaced under the influence of the grinding pressure can be made small. Only the grinding wheel, the shaft and a member, which is directly connected to said shaft, are displaced. Therefore, the grinding pressure is influenced only to an insignificant extent when changing the orientation of the grinding unit.
