摘要:
An object of the present invention is to provide a hydrophilic cellulose derivative fine particle having a small particle size, a dispersion liquid thereof and a dispersion body thereof; and provide a diagnostic reagent composed of the hydrophilic particle, which is excellent in storage stability and does not require excess components, such as an emulsifier or surfactant. The cellulose derivative fine particle of the present invention is a cellulose derivative fine particle comprising a cellulose derivative with a part of hydroxyl groups of cellulose being substituted with a substituent, wherein the average particle diameter is from 9 to 1,000 nm; and the diagnostic reagent of the present invention is a diagnostic reagent obtained by loading a substance differentially interacting with a test object substance on the above-described cellulose derivative fine particle.

The present invention is directed to a phosphoric ester of 2,3-dihydroxypropyl cellulose or 3-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl cellulose, the cellulose having optionally undergone partial carbamidation, and to a metal absorbent employing the ester, and to a metal-absorbing apparatus employing the metal adsorbent. The cellulose derivative phosphoric ester serves as a metal adsorbent which exhibits high metal adsorption performance and metal adsorption rate per unit weight; has high mechanical strength; effectively soften water or a similar liquid; removes heavy metals from wastewater or a similar liquid at remarkably high efficiency; has excellent processability and can be formed into a variety of shapes and thus is applicable within a wide range; and can readily be reutilized.

Polysaccharide aldehydes having the formula ##STR1## or Sacch--O--CH.sub.2 --Ar--CHO (II) such as starch, cellulose, and gum aldehydes, are useful as paper additives for imparting strength and as the granular or gelatinized portion of a corrugating adhesive. Those having formula I are prepared by a nonoxidative method which involves reacting the polysaccharide base, in the presence of alkali, with a derivatizing acetal reagent having the general structure ##STR2## and then hydrolyzing the acetal by adjusting the pH to less than 7, preferably 2-4. In the formula Ar is an aryl group, optionally containing an ether linkage, or an alkaryl group and A and A' are lower alkyls or together form at least a 5-membered cyclic acetal. The polysaccharide aldehydes are crosslinked by the addition of selected polyfunctional crosslinkers such as an aliphatic primary polyamine or polyketone.

Polysaccharide aldehydes having the formula Sacch--O--CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH--CHO, ##STR1## such as starch, cellulose, and gum aldehydes, are useful for imparting wet, dry, or temporary wet strength to paper. They are prepared by a non-oxidative method which involves reacting the polysaccharide base, in the presence of alkali, with a derivatizing acetal reagent having the general structure ##STR2## and then hydrolyzing the acetal by adjusting the pH to less than 7, preferably 2-4. In the formulas, n is 1-3; R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 are independently an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or alkaryl group when n is 1, R.sup.11 or R.sup.12 is one of the groups when n is 2, or R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 are not present when n is 3; R.sup.13 is an alkyl group, optionally containing an ether linkage, or an aralkyl group; R.sup.14 and R.sup.15 are individually a hydrogen or a methyl group; R.sup.16, R.sup.17, and R.sup.18 are individually an alkyl group; Y- is an anion; Z is an organic group capable of reacting with the polysaccharide base to form an ether derivative and selected from the group consisting of an epoxide, ethylenically unsaturated group, halohydrin, and halogen; R.sup.19, if present, is a divalent organic group containing no reactive substituents; and A and A'0 are lower alkyls or together form at least a 5-membered cyclic acetal.

Hydroxyalkyl ethers of hydroxyalkoxy polysaccharides are prepared by reacting the corresponding polysaccharide first with an epoxide in an aqueous alkaline medium, and then with an epoxide in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst in a nonaqueous, nonalcoholic organic solvent. The resulting products are hydrophobic and strongly lipophilic, and are outstanding substrates for liquid-gel chromatography.

Ion exchanges on cellulose basis containing groups of the formula ##STR1## in which R represents a functional group and n is zero or 1 are prepared, when n is zero, by reacting cellulose or a cellulose-like compound with a .beta.-hydroxyethylsulfonyl derivative and, when n is 1, by preparing a cellulose derivative from cellulose and an amino derivative of .beta.-hydroxyethylsulfone, diazotizing the cellulose derivative and introducing R-H functional groups by coupling of ligands capable of being coupled.

A CONTROLLED REDUCTION OF THE VISCOSITY OF A CELLULOSE ETHER IS ACHIEVED BY BLENDING AN ESSENTIALLY DRY, FREEFOWING PARTICULATE CELLULOSE ETHER WITH A PREDETERMINED AMOUNT OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, HEATING THE BLENDED CELLULOSE ETHER AT ABOUT 50*-150*C. TO REACT SUBSTANTIALLY ALL THE ADDED HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, AND RECOVERING A LOWER VISCOSITY, PARTICULATE CELLULOSE ETHER HAVING AN INTRINSIC FLUIDITY GREATER THAN THE INITIAL CELLULOSE ETHER. HIGH YIELDS AND A READILY CONTROLLED VISCOSITY REDUCTION AE OBTAINED.

Bibulous cellulosic fibers for use in fibrous structures having an inherently absorptive function, for example surgical dressings, surgical sponges filters, catamenial napkins, tampons and diapers, which bibulous cellulosic fibers, and fibrous structures containing said bibulous fibers in effective amounts, are characterized by greatly improved absorbency for and retention of aqueous solutions, including physiological solutions. The bibulous cellulosic fibers are substantially water-insoluble, wet cross-linked fibrous salts of carboxymethyl cellulose having a sufficiently high degree of carboxymethyl substitution to insure water solubility in the absence of crosslinking. The bibulous cellulosic fibers are produced under conditions which preserve the fibrous form of the cellulose fiber raw material.
