Abstract: To achieve improvement in functionality resulting from switching of optical elements and miniaturization of the device. A medical observation device includes: an imaging optical system configured to capture an image of a subject; an image sensor configured to photoelectrically convert the image of the subject captured by the imaging optical system; and an element holding frame configured to hold a plurality of optical elements and to be capable of being rotated around a rotation shaft. An axial direction of the rotation shaft is set to a direction orthogonal to an optical axis direction that is a direction of a line from the imaging optical system to the image sensor, and the element holding frame is rotated and thus at least one of the optical elements among the plurality of optical elements is positioned on an optical axis. Thereby, the element holding frame is rotated around a rotation shaft whose axial direction is set to the direction orthogonal to the optical axis direction and thus at least one of the plurality of optical elements is positioned on the optical axis, and therefore it is possible to achieve improvement in functionality resulting from switching of the optical elements and miniaturization of the device.

Abstract: An objective lens system for an optical biopsy device has a lens that comprises a first part configured for viewing at a first magnification, and a second part configured for viewing at a second magnification. The second magnification is substantially different from the first magnification. The first magnification enables viewing a larger area of a target and the second magnification enables viewing the target at a cellular level with high sensitivity and specificity. Combining viewing at two different magnifications in a single objective lens results in a compact optical biopsy device.

Thus, when imaging an object to be observed and displaying the image, the user's visual field for observing the displayed image can be sufficiently ensured.

Abstract: A tissue cutting device that is especially suited for neurosurgical applications is disclosed and described. The device includes a handpiece and an outer cannula in which a reciprocating inner cannula is disposed. The inner cannula includes a hinge between a body section and a cutting section that allows the cutting section to pivot when the inner cannula reciprocates within the outer cannula. A tissue collector is also provided and is in fluid communication with the lumen of the inner cannula. The tissue cutting device may be used with imaging device such as microscopes and endoscopes during neurosurgery procedures.

Abstract: According to some examples, a method for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) image modification includes receiving an OCT image of a region of interest of patient tissue from an OCT imaging system configured to direct an OCT beam at the region of interest and determining that an OCT transparent instrument is within the OCT image. The method further includes detecting an artifact in the OCT image, the artifact resulting from the OCT transparent instrument being within a path of the OCT beam. In response to detecting the artifact, the method further includes creating an image modification plan to remove the artifact from the OCT image. The method further includes executing the image modification plan to remove the artifact from the OCT image.

Abstract: Systems, methods and devices are implemented for microscope imaging solutions. One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed toward an epifluorescence microscope. The microscope includes an image capture circuit including an array of optical sensor. An optical arrangement is configured to direct excitation light of less than about 1 mW to a target object in a field of view of that is at least 0.5 mm2 and to direct epi-fluorescence emission caused by the excitation light to the array of optical sensors. The optical arrangement and array of optical sensors are each sufficiently close to the target object to provide at least 2.5 μm resolution for an image of the field of view.
