Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, an apparatus of a user equipment (UE) comprising circuitry to receive a Beamforming Reference Signal (BRS) transmission from an evolved NodeB (eNB) via one or more transmission beams, divide the one or more transmission beams into one or more transmission beam sets, wherein a transmission beam set comprises a number of consecutive orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, scan consecutive receiving beams for corresponding transmission beam sets to obtain channel measurements to select a transmission beam and a receiving beam based at least in part on the channel measurements, and receive transmissions from the eNB using the selected transmission beam and the selected receiving beam.

Abstract: Sub-band allocation techniques for reduced-bandwidth machine-type communication (MTC) devices are described. In one embodiment, for example, user equipment (UE) may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to identify a machine-type communication (MTC) sub-band allocation based on received MTC sub-band allocation information, the MTC sub-band allocation to comprise an allocation of a plurality of subcarriers to an MTC sub-band of a system bandwidth of a serving cell of the UE, the MTC sub-band allocation to define at least one MTC direct current (DC) subcarrier among the plurality of subcarriers, and a radio interface to receive a transmission via the MTC sub-band according to the MTC sub-band allocation. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments of user equipment (UE), an enhanced node B (eNB), and methods of signaling for proximity services and device-to-device (D2D) discovery in an LTE network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the UE receives configuration information for a D2D discovery resource pool of a cell. The configuration information includes an indication that the D2D discovery resource pool has been logically divided into a plurality of sub-discovery resource pools. The UE performs an initial transmission of a discovery signal in a discovery period using a single D2D discovery resource from a first sub-discovery resource pool of the plurality of sub-discovery resource pools. The UE performs a number of additional transmissions of the discovery signal in the discovery period using additional D2D discovery resources from sub-discovery resource pools of the plurality of sub-discovery resource pools other than the first sub-discovery resource pool. Other apparatuses and methods are also described.

Abstract: Described is an Evolved Node-B (eNB) comprising one or more processors to generate a first transmission for a first Cellular Internet-of-Things (CIoT) device and a second transmission for a second CIoT device. The first and second transmissions may include the same set of system information. Also described is a CIoT device comprising one or more processors to to process a System Information (SI) transmission on one of a plurality of NB channels, and to process and extract information from a PSS and/or SSS transmission on a set of subcarriers corresponding to a set of frequency bands. The plurality of NB channels are within a wireless communication system bandwidth, and at least two of the plurality of NB channels correspond to portions of the wireless communication system bandwidth outside the set of frequency bands.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) to operate in accordance with a physical random access channel (PRACH) are disclosed herein. The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting uplink control information (UCI) over an OFDMA-based uplink. In some embodiments, UCI symbols are mapped to resource elements (REs) in the time/frequency resource grid to maximize frequency diversity. In some embodiments, UCI is mapped in a manner that takes into account channel estimation performance by mapping UCI symbols to those REs that are closest (in terms of OFDM subcarriers/symbols) to REs that carry reference signals.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and methods for packet based device-to-device (D2D) discovery in an LTE network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, UE may be enabled for proximity services and may be configured to receive signaling from an enhanced node B (eNB) indicating resources allocated for D2D discovery. The UE may configure a discovery packet in accordance with a predetermined configuration to have at least a discovery payload and a cyclic-redundancy check (CRC). The discovery payload may include discovery-related content. The UE may be configured to transmit the discovery packet on at least some of the indicated resources for receipt by a receiving UE. In some embodiments, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) may be selected to indicate a payload size and/or MCS of the discovery packet's payload.
