    摘要: A system and a method of nitrogen fixation is disclosed in which nitrogen and other gases such as oxygen are electrically activated and reacted on a catalyst-like material to provide a fixed nitrogen product in such a way that the reactant gases are first placed into an excited state by a single electrode electric discharge acting on a gas stream and then by means of the stream the reactants are contacted on the catalyst-like material on which they are then combined and the product compounds which are thereby formed are shielded by the same catalytic material from ultra violet radiation generated by the electric excitation, said shielding being to prevent subsequent disassociation of the product compounds, and the gas stream emerging on the downstream side of the catalyst carries the products to an absorption bed on which they are absorbed and concentrated and then reacted with a periodic flow of hydrogen to provide ammonia. In an alternate embodiment the products absorbed on the bed are first desorbed and then reacted with hydrogen.

    摘要: A high temperature reactor is fitted with a plasma gun at an anode chamber and is provided with a graphite cathode. The reactor is cooled by means of pipes in the refractory lining of the reactor, and rests on essentially horizontal bearings. The charge to be melted e.g. oxides or oxide mixtures is fed from above at an angle .alpha. at most 90.degree. to the main axis of the reactor in the direction of the plasma stream, and the molten product is tapped off at an exit port which is also close to the entry port of the plasma stream so that the plasma stream covers and therefore heats the area around the exit port.

    摘要: In the process of carrying out high temperature, chemical reactions including reductins for producing elemental metal powders, especially refractory metals; chlorinations for producing halogens and for chemical synthesis in general using a plasma genertor, the reactant or reactants feed material is introduced into the reaction zone of the apparatus and the effluent from the reaction zone is directed into a quenching zone through a selectively variable passageway or orifice in a manner that permits in the reduction process separation of the desired reaction product from the effluent hot gas stream and the continuous collection of the reaction product in a collection zone wherein in some instances, the reaction product is of a selected characteristic, controlled by the maintenance of certain operational parameters, including a selected differential fluid pressure in the reaction and collection zone as well as reaction and collection zone temperatures. Apparatus for carrying out the high temperature chemical reactions is disclosed.
