Abstract: The data bits of a first image data unit representing a first range of 0-255 continuous color tones are mapped to a second image data unit having an expanded bit count capable of representing a second range of continuous color tones greater the first range. Of the available colors tones in the second range, 256 color tones are selected and associated with the 256 data combinations achievable with the first image data unit. A decoder is used to convert each data combination in the first image data unit into its corresponding color tone from the second range, which defines its conversion into a second image data unit. In this manner, one can expand the range of displayable colors to approximate the display of true colors associated with a higher resolution without increasing the number of bits of the first image data unit, which is input to a driver IC by an MPU.

Abstract: A pointing device including a base section, an operating section shiftably supported on the base section, a magnet carried on one of the base section and the operating section, and a magneto-electro transducer carried on the other of the base section and the operating section at a location close to the magnet. The operating section includes a first part securely holding one of the magnet and the magneto-electro transducer and supported on the base section shiftably in a desired horizontal direction relative to the base section, and a second part connected to the first part and elastically biasing the first part toward a home position in a horizontal shifting range during a period when the first part is horizontally shifted along the base section. The second part of the operating section is provided integrally with a major portion substantially surrounding an entire circumference of the first part, a first connecting portion connected to the first part at one end of the major portion and a second connecting portion connected to the base section at another end of the major portion; the major portion exerting an even elastic biasing force irrespective of a shifting direction of the first part on the base section.

Abstract: An electrically driven brake booster (1) includes an input member (4) disposed in operative association with a brake pedal (12), an output member (5) disposed in operative association with the master cylinder (6), and drive transmitting device (10) for translating a rotating motion of a motor (9) into a linear motion to be transmitted to the output member (5). The drive transmitting device (10) comprises a rack (23) formed on the output member (5), and pinions (21, 22) disposed in operative association with the motor (9) and in meshing engagement with the rack (23). Also, reaction transmitting device (8) which transmits a brake reaction to the input member (4) and the output member (5) at a given proportion is provided. In comparison to conventional drive transmitting device, the drive transmitting device (10) of the present invention has a simple construction, a reduced weight and a better transmission efficiency. The provision of reaction transmitting device allows a correct brake control to be achieved on the basis of a brake reaction.

Abstract: A polishing device includes a wafer chuck mechanism which retains a wafer while its plane to be polished faces upward, a polishing pad component which possesses a polishing plane which polishes the wafer, a polishing head, and a shift mechanism which enables a relative displacement of said polishing pad component in relation to the wafer. A fixation and retention mechanism fixes and retains said polishing pad component to the polishing head in a detachable fashion while its polishing plane faces downward. The displacement distance of the shift mechanism ranges from the polishing position of the wafer to the exchange position of the polishing pad component, so that the polishing pad component is automatically exchanged.
