Photo-activated polymers and co-polymers exhibit colors in the visible spectrum when photo-activated. The photo-active polymers, co-polymers and combinations thereof may be utilized in articles to impart color to the articles. For example, the photo-active polymers may be utilized in printing technology, such as in 2D printing and/or in 3D-printing methods to impart colors to articles.

Abstract:
The invention provides a coating composition that provides high brightness, high gloss and superior print quality. The coated product comprises a substrate coated on at least one side with a coating composition comprising a pigment component and a binder component that is made of mixture of two binder resins. Both binder resins are capable of film forming. The first binder resin provides coating gloss and adhesion properties and the second binder resin enhances coating porosity, adhesion, and anti-static properties. The first binder resin that is used at 60-95% by weight of the total binder resin blend is selected from the group consisting of vinyl acetate acrylate, styrene acrylate and styrene butadiene acrylic copolymers. The second binder resin that is used at 5-40% by weight of the total binder resin blend is selected from the group consisting of anion type polystyrene derivatives, polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol.
Abstract:
A surfacing composition made of recycled paint, which requires no priming, has a non-reflective “flat” appearance, and is partially composed of dried paint. The composition provides a useful application for used or excess household paint, which would otherwise require special methods of disposal and potentially create future toxic cleanup problems. The composition is made of granular dried paint and a water-based sealer, which can be spread on a surface to repair imperfections. The surface can then be finished, and no priming is required. Due to the composition's flat appearance, the patch does not display any characteristic sheen where the repair has been made. The composition provides a simple means of recycling paint, and provides a simple and inexpensive means of repairing imperfections in walls and other surfaces while saving the step of priming the patch before painting or repainting.
Abstract:
A process for coating a metal fastener with a coating composition that has a particular affinity for plaster materials is disclosed. The composition comprises a mixture of a copolymer of an aromatic monomer, preferably styrene, and a monomer with .alpha., .beta. unsaturation with carboxyl groups, preferably maleic anhydride, and a thermoplastic resin disposed within an organic solvent. The resin is preferably polyvinyl acetate, and the solvent can be an aromatic solvent, a ketone, a chlorohydrocarbon, or a mixture there of. The coating composition is disposed within a reservoir, and the fastener is dipped into the composition within the reservoir. The coated fastener is then subsequently dried at approximately ambient temperature.

This invention relates to the synthesis of a latex which can be formulated into coatings having improved flexibility and good water resistance. Coatings of this type are particularly useful in roof coating applications because they offer excellent flexibility, excellent ultra-violet light resistance, and good water resistance. The subject invention more specifically discloses a process for producing a neutralized latex that is useful in the manufacture of water reducible coatings which comprises:(1) free radical aqueous emulsion polymerizing, at a pH of less than about 3.5, a monomer mixture which comprises, based on 100 weight percent monomers: (a) from about 30 to about 70 weight percent vinyl aromatic monomers, (b) from about 25 to about 65 weight percent of at least one alkyl acrylate monomer, (c) from about 1 to about 5 weight percent of acrylic acid, and (d) about 0.4 to about 3 weight percent methacrylic acid, in the presence of about 0.2 to 0.4 phm at least one sulfonate surfactant and in the presence of about 4 to 8 phm of at least one nonionic surface active agent having a hydrophile-lipophile balance number which is within the range of about 12 to about 20 to produce a latex; and(2) neutralizing the latex with ammonia to a pH which is within the range of about 7 to about 10.5 to produce the neutralized latex.
