Abstract:
Systems and methods for a media guidance application that adjusts output parameters of media assets delivered to output devices based on user preferences of users near the output devices. For example, the media guidance application may adjust the volume to be higher at a speaker near a first user who enjoys a particular media asset and lower at a speaker near a second user who dislikes the media asset.

Abstract:
A system and method for determining unauthorized use of a set top box includes a satellite signal determination module in the set top box receives a satellite signal from a satellite comprising a first satellite signal identifier. A memory in the set top box stores a second satellite signal identifier for a location of the user device. The user device also includes a comparison module comparing the first satellite signal identifier to the second satellite signal identifier and a disable module disabling the user device from processing satellite signals in response to comparing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the radio-frequency communication of data, in which the receiving of and/or access to said data is controlled by control means, including an electronic microcircuit, on the basis of access rights. The transmitted data includes time information, and the access rights are controlled on the basis of said time information. The invention also relates to a device for controlling access rights as well as to a radio-frequency receiving device including same.
Abstract:
A data broadcasting system of the present invention transmits contents used in a program and presentation control data specifying the manner of presentation of each content, in multiplex by assigning in arbitrary channels in each program. In this system, plural contents groups composed of at least one of real time reception type contents selectively received and reproduced in real time in the receiving terminal device, first store type contents reproduced after being stored as reception is started by selection, second store type contents read and reproduced when selected as being automatically received and stored, and parallel contents combining the real time reception type contents and the first or second storing type contents are provided a series of program.
Abstract:
The content distribution system of the invention changes over the content distribution destination between terminals which have different content receiving formats. The terminals comprise means for requesting, while viewing content from a broadcasting station, changeover of distribution of this content to another terminal. The broadcasting station comprises means for changing over the content distribution destination on the basis of the aforesaid request. The content distribution system of the invention also comprises means for deciding on the distribution format of content in accordance with the type of aforesaid other terminal, which corresponds to the destination to which content distribution is to be changed over to by the changeover means. The means for deciding on distribution format comprises for example means which distributes content by scrambled broadcast when the aforesaid other terminal is a set-top box, and which encrypts content by means of codec conversion when the other terminal is a terminal connected in a broadband environment.
Abstract:
A television receiver includes a micro-controller (103) for control of tuning, teletext acquisition, on-screen display, and other functions. It also includes a non-volatile memory (111) in which information regarding the source from which a signal is being received is stored under the control of the micro-controller (103). The micro-controller (103) also enters start and stop times which may be acquired by the teletext acquisition circuit (102). Under control of a user using, for example, a remote control device, the micro-controller (103) reads the information from the non-volatile memory (111) and formats it into information suitable for display to the user to enable the user to monitor the programs received.
Abstract:
In a video-on-demand and communications system, the enhancements comprising the automatic integration of the video and communication services delivered to a viewer. Specifically, during the viewing of a video, when a phone call, audio or audio/video, is received, the delivery of the video is automatically paused in response to the viewer accepting the call. Upon completion of the call, the delivery of the video is automatically restarted at the point placed on hold, at some pre-defined amount of time prior to the pausing of the video, or at a suitable prior point in the video. When the video being delivered is a content-on-demand video, the video map identifies the beginning point of the segment in which the pause occurred thus automatically identifying a suitable prior point in the video to restart the delivery of the video. By automatically replaying the segment in which the pause occurred, the viewer re-engages the video without the loss of continuity.
Abstract:
A video method and system for automatically tracking a viewer defined target within a viewer defined window of a video image as the target moves within the video image by selecting a target within a video, producing an identification of the selected target, defining a window within the video, utilizing the identification to automatically maintain the selected target within the window of the video as the selected target shifts within the video, and transmitting the window of the video.
Abstract:
An enhanced radio system is disclosed that provides for the capture and playback of one or more radio stations. A user may tune to a station, scan through stations, rewind through missed content (even while the system is off), and fast-forward through undesired content, while downloading and uploading audio content, and sending content to another user. A user may rate content, and be notified when that content is played on any station, with undesirable content skipped and desirable content saved, or station recommendations made. Support for multiple sets of configuration information to allow use by multiple listeners and in multiple locations may be provided. Optionally provided are security features to prevent the unauthorized downloading, uploading, and saving of copies of content, other radio related and content related information, a karaoke mode, integration with a telephone with the radio, or reporting usage information to a collection facility.
