A system and method for improving the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) signal acquisition time stores the demodulated DRM signal and accesses it from memory in order to avoid the additional time taken in waiting for service description channel (SDC) data. The system includes an antenna to receive a DRM signal. A tuner tunes the frequency of receiver to a desired range. An asynchronous sample rate converter (ASRC) converts the sampling rate of the received signal to a demodulator sampling rate. A demodulator demodulates the received signal. A memory stores the demodulated signal for reuse. A channel splitter splits the received signal into a fast access channel (FAC), a service description channel (SDC), and a main service channel (MSC). A channel decoder decodes the channel split data. A middleware and an application parses and processes the data in order to output the processed data.

A mobile viewing method includes accessing location information indicative of a current location of a mobile device associated with a home market. A current market corresponding to the current location of the mobile device is identified. If the current market differs from the home market, the mobile device is granted access to a retransmission of at least one local channel of the current market. The location information may include GPS information indicative of GPS coordinates of the mobile device. The mobile device may include a mobile viewing application that displays a channel guide indicating local channels available in the current market and national channels. The mobile viewing application may include a summary of the current market and the summary may include weather, news headline, and local advertisement information.

A method for emergency communication includes encoding a message for visual display including a message to field and a message from field. The visual display is revealed to a reading device in communication with a broadcast center, which stores the visual display. The messages are decoded and sorted from visual displays at the broadcast center. On an index channel, a time and channel number for when a message body of the message will be broadcast on a message channel is broadcasted. The message body is broadcasted on the message channel.

The processor is configured to broadcast an activation request to a plurality of information processing devices having a reception period during which the activation request is received. The reception period occurs in a predetermined cycle. The processor is configured to receive a confirmation response from first information processing devices among the plurality of information processing devices. The first information processing devices receive the activation request. The processor is configured to issue an activation instruction to a predetermined number of second information processing devices among the first information processing devices. The activation instruction instructs to activate the second information processing devices. The processor is configured to issue, to the first information processing devices other than the second information processing devices, an activation prohibition instruction to prohibit activation.

A configuration in which a reception device can determine whether or not data reception via a network is permitted on the basis of signaling data is implemented. A class identifier indicating a group of reception devices or users that are permitted to perform data reception via a network is recorded in signaling data transmitted from a transmission device to a reception device. A reception device determines whether or not a class identifier is identical to a class identifier set to a reception device or a user and performs data reception via a network when the class identifiers are identical to each other. A URL base pattern applied to data reception via a broadcast wave or a network is recorded in signaling data, and a reception device performs data acquisition to which the URL base pattern is applied.

A system and method of controlling a digital radio broadcast receiver in a vehicle includes: detecting an instruction to activate the digital radio broadcast receiver; accessing a software application at the vehicle in response to the instruction; and activating the digital radio broadcast receiver in the vehicle at the direction of the software application.

A method is provided that comprises tuning a radio system to a frequency band that contains a locally-broadcast terrestrial radio signal. The locally-broadcast terrestrial radio signal comprising a main signal component and a side data component is thereby received. In response to receiving the locally-broadcast terrestrial radio signal a determination is made as to a permissible time for processing the side data component using a time slot schedule. The side data component is processed at the permissible time. A message corresponding to the side data component is outputted to an output device. In some instances, the side data component includes the message. In other instances, the method further includes searching a message lookup list using a code included in the side data component. When a stored code is found that matches the code, the message corresponding to the matching stored code is outputted.

The transmitted data includes time information, and the access rights are controlled on the basis of said time information. Disclosed herein are a method and an apparatus for transmitting data in a cable network. The transmitter generates upper layer data including multiplexed data of a plurality of subscriber terminals, dividing the upper layer data into a plurality of segment data, performs channel coding on each segment data, extracts information on at least one subscriber terminal included in each segment data to generate subscriber identification signals, inserts the subscriber identification signals into each channel-coded segment data, and modulates and transmits each segment data into which the subscriber identification signals are inserted.
