摘要: A method and apparatus for recognizing and synchronizing to in-band data at a multimedia device is provided. A content stream includes in-band data. The in-band data is processed and in-band data pattern data associated with the content stream are created. Metadata are attached to the event identification data. The event identification data are provided to multimedia devices which receive broadcasted multimedia content streams containing video programs with in-band data. The in-band data are processed and compared to the event identification data. If a match occurs, the multimedia device uses the metadata to perform specified actions.

The first playback control information specifies that a video stream of a high-luminance range is to be played, and the second playback control information specifies that a video stream of a standard-luminance range is to be played. A video player acquires and plays the video stream of the high-luminance range based on the first playback control information in a case of playing the content as the high-luminance range. The video player acquires and plays the video stream of the standard-luminance range based on the second playback control information in a case of playing the content as the standard-luminance range.

A user can therefore find an object chapter and scene quickly and easily.

摘要: An ad in a movie can be a static ad having a position in the movie that cannot be moved, or a dynamic ad having a position in the movie that can be changed. When a viewer wishes to skip a portion of the movie containing the ad, the playback system determines whether the ad is static or dynamic. If the ad is static, only the portion of the movie preceding the static ad can be skipped; the ad is unskippable. This technique is referred to as “bounceback” since the end of the skip bounces back to the start of the static ad. If the ad is dynamic, it is moved to after the end of the skip. This technique is referred to as “slip-ad” since the ad slips to later in the movie. When a movie has multiple ads, some can be static and some can be dynamic.

Multimedia files in accordance with embodiments of the present invention can contain multiple video tracks, multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle tracks, data that can be used to generate a menu interface to access the contents of the file and ‘meta data’ concerning the contents of the file. Multimedia files in accordance with several embodiments of the present invention also include references to video tracks, audio tracks, subtitle tracks and ‘meta data’ external to the file. One embodiment of a multimedia file in accordance with the present invention includes a series of encoded video frames and encoded menu information.

摘要: A method and apparatus for displaying branded video tags. An advertiser provides additional content associated with broadcast advertising content to a service provider that downloads the additional content to a digital video recorder (DVR). The service provider inserts command tags into the content that are intercepted by the DVR and interpreted as commands that instruct the DVR to perform specific actions when the DVR receives the stream from a broadcaster. The DVR intercepts and translates any tags inserted into the content stream while the DVR is playing the content stream. Tags can cause the DVR to display a branded video tag to the user which is a displayed icon that requests an interaction by the user and has an advertiser's logo(s) displayed in its vicinity.

摘要: Methods and apparatus to detect blank images in a digital video broadcast signal are disclosed. An example method of detecting a blank image includes receiving a compressed digital image including a plurality of DC values, analyzing a total number of bits in the digital image to determine if the digital image has a data size small enough to be a blank frame candidate, if the data size is small enough for the digital image to be a blank frame candidate, analyzing multiple areas of the digital image to determine if the multiple areas exhibit substantially a same complexity, if the multiple areas exhibit substantially the same complexity, determining a number of DC values in the plurality of DC values that meet a criterion, comparing the determined number of DC values meeting the criterion to a threshold, and identifying the received digital image as a blank image if the determined number of DC values exceeds the threshold.

摘要: A configuration is implemented that converts MMT format data to MPEG-2 TSV format data for recording onto medium, thereby permitting copy control in compliance with the initial copy control information. MMT format data with copy control information set therein is input and converted to MPEG-2 TS format data for re-cording onto information recording medium. The copy control information recorded in the service description table (MH-SDT) stipulated by the MMT format is acquired and, in accordance with predetermined conversion rules, used to generate the copy control information for recording to the program map table (PMT) stipulated by the MPEG-2 TS. For example, the EPN and CCI values to be recorded to the PMT are determined in accordance with the conversion rules.

The decoding method also includes generating base video information by decoding the base video stream, generating enhanced video information by decoding the enhanced video stream, generating decoded video information based on the base video stream and the enhanced video stream, and outputting the decoded video information.
