Abstract: Methods and devices are described for reducing the audible effect of pre-responses in an audio signal. The pre-responses are effectively delayed by employing a digital non-minimum-phase filter, which includes a zero lying outside the unit circle in its z-transform response. This zero is not paired with another zero at a reciprocal position inside the unit circle, as this would linearise the phase modification. The filtering can introduce a greater group delay at the pre-response frequency than at a low frequency, such as 500 Hz or even 0 Hz. The technique can be used to reduce pre-responses in an existing audio signal and also to pre-empt pre-responses that would be introduced to the audio signal by subsequent processing.

Abstract: A decoding system decodes a video stream, which is encoded video information. The decoding system includes a decoder that acquires the video steam and generates decoded video information, a maximum luminance information acquirer that acquires maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of the video stream from the video stream, and an outputter that outputs the decoded video information along with the maximum luminance information. In in a case where the video stream includes a base video stream and an enhanced video stream, the decoder generates base video information by decoding the base video stream, an enhanced video information by decoding the enhanced video stream, and generates the decoded video information based on the base video information and the enhanced video information, and the outputter outputs the decoded video information, along with the maximum luminance information.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprises a receiver (201) for receiving an image signal which comprises at least an encoded image and a target display reference. The target display reference is indicative of a dynamic range of a target display for which the encoded image is encoded. A dynamic range processor (203) generates an output image by applying a dynamic range transform to the encoded image in response to the target display reference. An output (205) then outputs an output image signal comprising the output image, e.g. to a suitable display. The dynamic range transform may furthermore be performed in response to a display dynamic range indication received from a display. The invention may be used to generate an improved High Dynamic Range (HDR) image from e.g. a Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image, or vice versa.

Abstract: A multimedia file and methods of generating, distributing and using the multimedia file are described. Multimedia files in accordance with embodiments of the present invention can contain multiple video tracks, multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle tracks, a complete index that can be used to locate each data chunk in each of these tracks and an abridged index that can enable the location of a subset of the data chunks in each track, data that can be used to generate a menu interface to access the contents of the file and ‘meta data’ concerning the contents of the file. Multimedia files in accordance with several embodiments of the present invention also include references to video tracks, audio tracks, subtitle tracks and ‘meta data’ external to the file. One embodiment of a multimedia file in accordance with the present invention includes a series of encoded video frames, a first index that includes information indicative of the location within the file and characteristics of each encoded video frame and a separate second index that includes information indicative of the location within the file of a subset of the encoded video frames.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus according to an aspect of the present technology performs a search for a recorded program and a program to be provided later to acquire a first search result in a case where a character string indicating content of an utterance of a user does not include a predetermined character string indicating the setting of the schedule recording of the program to be provided later and performs a search for the program to be provided later to acquire a second search result in a case where the character string includes the predetermined character string. In a case where a program whose schedule recording is to be set is selected from a display screen of the second search result, the information processing apparatus sets the schedule recording of the selected program without displaying a detail screen.

Abstract: In a recording medium on which is recorded a multiplexed stream including a plurality of first packets (V_main) constituting a first I-picture in a first video stream and a plurality of second packets (V_sub) constituting a second I-picture in a second video stream, information for identifying the first I-picture and information for identifying the second I-picture are recorded on the medium. A recording medium can thereby be obtained that enables the rapid detection, from a small amount of information, of a particular picture included in a stream such as a TS in which multiple content streams are multiplexed.
