摘要: A piston ring may include a spacer or expansion element and/or two segments. The segments may have a radial dimension between approximately 1.50 mm and approximately 1.90 mm and a height between approximately 0.30 mm and approximately 0.40 mm. The segments may have a concave profile with recesses between approximately 0.015 mm and approximately 0.030 mm and a clearance of approximately 0.150 mm. The segments may be wound via a matrix box device and a roller. The piston ring may have a circularity, expressed in the form of a decomposition as a Fourier series, with an amplitude for orders higher than 10 which is not greater than 0.10 μm.

摘要: An internal combustion may include a cylinder having a first combustion chamber at one end and a second combustion chamber at an opposing end, first and second cylinder heads located at an end of the first and second combustion chambers, respectively, and a double-faced piston slidably mounted therein. The piston may be configured to move in a first stroke that includes an expansion stroke portion and a non-expansion stroke portion. The engine may further include first and second piston rod portions extending from opposite faces of the piston. A recess in the piston rod portions may be configured to communicate gases between a combustion chamber and locations outside the cylinder. There may also be a chamber surrounding the first or second piston rod portion, the chamber configured to be supplied with gas and the chamber being isolated from the first combustion chamber and the second combustion chamber.

摘要: A piston for a high temperature internal combustion engine is provided. The piston includes an upper wall, base wall, outer rib, and inner rib defining a cooling chamber therebetween, and a plurality of ring grooves formed in the outer rib. Only the second ring groove is formed with the keystone cross-section, and all of the other ring grooves are formed with the conventional rectangular cross-section. Thus, the piston can be formed with low manufacturing costs and can also provide exceptional performance when used in high temperature combustion engines, wherein the temperature at the first ring groove is greater than 280° C., and thus prevents carbon from depositing or burns off any carbon deposits, but the temperature at the second ring groove is between 200° C. and 280° C., in which case carbon deposits can form and cause the piston ring to stick.

摘要: A sliding element for an internal combustion engine may include a base material having an annular external surface. The external surface may include a bonding layer, a first layer of coating, and a second layer of coating sequentially disposed thereon. The first layer of coating and the second layer of coating may include hard amorphous carbon (DLC) of a combined matrix having a plurality of sp3/sp2 bonds. The first layer of coating may include 45% sp3 bonds or less and may have a thickness of at least 10 micrometers. The second layer of coating may include at least 55% sp3 bonds and may have a thickness of at least 3 micrometers.

摘要: An engine includes a cylinder liner and a piston movable within the cylinder liner, a crevice formed between a top land of the piston and the cylinder liner, and an oil entry clearance formed between a top ring of the piston and the cylinder liner. The engine also includes an abnormal combustion inhibitor having an oil recapture surface exposed to the crevice and oriented to limit migration of oil from the crevice toward a combustion chamber in the engine. The abnormal combustion inhibitor includes a groove structure having as a substrate at least one of the cylinder liner or the piston. Related methodology is also disclosed.
