Abstract: A tappet is used in a valve-operating mechanism of an internal combustion engine. The tappet has a top wall and the upper surface of the top wall is engaged with a cam. The lower surface is engaged on a poppet valve which moves up and down. A downward projection which has a recess for storing lubricating oil is formed in the middle of the lower surface of the top wall of the tappet, thereby lubricating interfaces with the cam or valve to improve frictional or wear resistance.

Abstract: More lubricating oil can be supplied to a connecting rod bearing provided in a connecting rod to provide excellent lubrication between the connecting rod and a crank pin. A pair of oil groove portions 13a and 13b is provided in an inner circumferential surface portion 17 of a crank journal bearing 11, which extends in the movement direction of a piston 32 and which is disposed opposite to each other. A lubricating oil supplying passage 28 is provided between the crank journal 10 and the crank pin 20, one end portion 29 of which is opened to the groove portions 13a and 13b provided in the crank journal bearing 11, the other end portion 30 of which is opened to an inner circumferential surface portion 23 of the connecting rod bearing 22, and which supplies the lubricating oil to the connecting rod bearing 22.

Abstract: A crankcase arrangement for an engine includes an improved construction that allows lubricant to more freely flow through the crankcase and to quickly return to a lubricant reservoir even though the engine has a compact construction. A cylinder body of an exemplifying engine includes at least an upper bearing portion, intermediate bearing portion and lower bearing portion. A crankcase member, which defines a crankcase cavity with the cylinder body, includes an upper bearing section and a lower bearing section. An upper main bearing journal of a crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the upper bearing portion and the upper bearing section and a lower main bearing journal of the crankshaft is rotatably journaled between the lower bearing portion and the lower bearing section. A bearing cap is arranged to rotatably journal the crankshaft with the intermediate bearing portion. In a preferred form, the bearing cap includes a plurality of cap sections that are joined together. Each cap section cooperates with a corresponding intermediate bearing portion of the cylinder body. Intermediate main bearings, which are formed by the cooperating cap sections and intermediate bearing portions, journal the crankshaft at a plurality of locations between the upper and lower main bearing journals of the crankshaft.
