Abstract:
Processes for chemical functionalization of materials are described. The processes generally include chemical reaction between a thiol group of a first compound or material and an alkene group or alkyne group of a second compound or material. Also disclosed are functionalized materials and compounds suitable for functionalizing a material.
Abstract:
Polyethylene support in form of net or fabric, comprising, grafted on the surface of said support, a hydrogel comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone. Method for preparing said support comprising the steps of: immersing the support in a toluene solution (Sol1) containing: ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate (EGDMA) and cumene hydroperoxide (CHP); immersing the support in an aqueous solution (Sol2) containing: FeCl2*4H2O, ascorbic acid and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP); washing and drying the support.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for treating polyester, polyamide, acrylic, aramid or cellulosic substrates to improve the uniformity of dyeing and to improve the hydrophilic, soil-release, odor-, mildew-, bacterial- and fungal- resistant properties of these substrates.
Abstract:
Modified wool having improved shrink-proofing property is obtained by a two step process in which raw material wool is first immersed in a first aqueous bath containing a water-soluble organic phosphine and is then immersed in a second aqueous bath containing a modifying agent selected from epoxy compounds, ethyleneimine compounds, urea, substituted urea compounds, thiourea, substituted thiourea compounds, alkylene carbonates, unsaturated carboxylic acids, derivatives of unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated nitriles, unsaturated alcohols, esters of an unsaturated alcohol, sulfonic acid salts having a vinyl group, cyanic acid salts, nonionic surfactants of a poly(alkylene oxide) type, salts of sulfates of the nonionic surfactants and silane coupling agents having a vinyl group. The treatment may also be performed by a one step process in which wool is immersed in an aqueous bath containing the above phosphine compound and a modifying agent selected from the above.
Abstract:
A method for imparting non-fugitive antimicrobial activity to an article of manufacture is disclosed which comprises forming the articles of manufacture from an acrylonitrile composition which includes up to 10% of a protonated amine. The antimicrobial activity is inherent in the acrylonitrile composition.
Abstract:
THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO NOVEL PROCESSES BY WHICH SUBSTITUENT GROUPS AND CROSSLINKS CAN BE INTRODUCED INTO CELLULOSE AND OTHER POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING REACTIVE HYDROXYL GROUPS. THE NOVEL PROCESSES OF THIS INVENTION AND THE NOVEL PRODUCT OF THIS INVENTION ARE BASED ON THE DISCOVERY THAT QUATERNARY AMMONIUM AND TERTIARY AMINO HYDROXIDE GROUPS DEVELOPED AS SUBSTITUENTS IN POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS, CATALYZE THE EACTION OF ACTIVATED VINYL COMPOUNDS WITH THE HYDROXYL GROUPS OF THESE POLYMERS.
