    摘要: A screening apparatus for molten plastic material flowing from an extruder comprising a housing mounted on the extruder and having a feed channel for flow of the plastic material therefrom and a slide member mounted for slidable movement in the housing with a clearance therebetween. The slide member contains replaceable screen elements adapted for being positioned in the path of flow of the plastic material flowing from the extruder to effect screening thereof. In order to seal the clearance between the slide member and the housing to prevent outflow of plastic material therefrom, a flange is mounted on the housing to surround the slide member with a gap therebetween. This permits normal free-sliding movement of the slide member in the housing. The flange contains cooling channels to permit flow of a coolant to cool plastic material in the gap and solidify the plastic material to prevent outflow of plastic material from the gap. The flange is mounted on the housing by thermal insulation which prevents cooling of the housing upon cooling of the flange.

    摘要: Particulate plastic materials are moved from a supply hopper through a former and formed into a product, the product is cut, and the scrap from the cut product is moved from the cutting area back to the supply hopper by an open conduit pneumatic induction system. The induction system includes a blower and an approximately L-shaped induction conduit with its first leg receiving the exhaust of the blower and its second leg including a Venturi throat. An induction opening is formed in the induction conduit and a scrap feed nozzle is telescopically mounted in the induction opening and has its discharge movably supported in the Venturi throat. The scrap feed nozzle is adjustable with respect to the Venturi throat so as to adjust the system to the most energy efficient position for required operating conditions.

    摘要: A process for producing articles of ultra high molecular weight high density polyethylene is disclosed which avoids long heating and cooling cycles, and compacting pressures in the order of 3,000 to 4,000 lbs/sq. inch. The resin is intensively mixed and thermokinetically heated in an enclosed container with a plurality of blades attached to arms rotating about an axis with a blade tip speed of at least 18 m/sec. until the resin reaches a desired discharge temperature of at least 135.degree. C. After being discharged from the mixing step, the ultra high molecular weight resin is formed into the desired shape within a time such that degradation does not occur.
