The particle includes an inner expanded polystyrene layer; and a functional skin layer. The inner expanded polystyrene layer is formed by heating and expanding an expandable polystyrene bead or pellet, and the functional skin layer is formed by coating the surface of the inner expanded polystyrene layer with a functional coating composition having 10 to 99 wt % of a vinyl acetate based polymer and 0.1 to 90 wt % of at least one functional additive.

    摘要: A foam comprising a foamed polymer-ionomer blend comprising: (a) at least one thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene and copolymers thereof, polypropylene and copolymers thereof, polybutene-1, poly(4-methylpentene-1), polystyrene and copolymers thereof, and (b) an ionomer resin comprising at least one direct or graft terpolymer prepared from: (1) ethylene, (2) α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 to 8 carbon atoms, and (3) softening comonomer selected from the group consisting of (A) vinyl esters of aliphatic carboxylic acids wherein the aliphatic carboxylic acid has from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, (B) alkyl vinyl ethers wherein the alkyl group contains from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and (C) alkyl acrylates or alkyl methacrylates wherein the alkyl group contains from 1 to 10 carbon atoms. The ionomer resin contains acid groups derived from the α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid that are at least partially neutralized with mono- or divalent metal ions. The blend has a flexural modulus of less than about 20,000 psi and a melt tension of greater than about 10 cN at 220° C. The foam cell compositions are suitable for use in multilayer structures and articles such as diapers, adult incontinence pads, and sanitary napkins.

    摘要: A method for coating the surface of a substrate composed of a hydrophobic polymer with a hydrophobic vinyl polymer. The method includes preparing a solution of the hydrophobic vinyl polymer in a polar nonaqueous solvent, such as 1-methyl-1-pyrrolidinone, in which the hydrophobic vinyl polymer is surface-active. The substrate then is treated with the solution under conditions sufficient to deposit the hydrophobic vinyl polymer on the substrate. The hydrophobic vinyl polymer may have readily hydrolyzable pendant groups which, upon hydrolysis thereof in an aqueous medium, will result in the formation of a hydrophilic vinyl polymer coating on the substrate. For example, the hydrophobic vinyl polymer may be poly(vinyl trifluoroacetate). Also provided are coated substrates, in which the substrate is a shaped article composed of a hydrophobic polymer. The shaped article may be, for example, a film, fiber, or nonwoven web.

This enables improvement of poor appearance of a molded article caused by insufficient dispersion of the EVOH (B) at the time of melt molding a resin composition comprising the polyolefin (A) and the EVOH (B).
