    摘要: A protective agent suitable to protect the human skin against lesions caused by vesicants or other percutaneous chemical agents, particularly against sulfur mustard gas injury and VX intoxication, which comprises a protective-effective amount of a hydrophilic water-based cream, alone or together with one or more additives selected from among the group consisting essentially of polyols, mono-, oligo- or polysaccharides, and salts of organic or inorganic acids. The additive polyol may be glycol, propylene glycol, polyglygcerol, glycerin, sorbitol, dulcitol, tritol, sorbitol or mannitol. The additive monosaccharide may be ribose, xylose, glucose, fructose, galactose or mannose. The additive oligosaccharide may be sucrose, maltose, lactose, raffinose or cellobiose.

    摘要: Homozygouse knock-out mice lacking the Aiolos gene are shown to exhibit multiple phenotypes in common with humans suffering from the autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). When Aiolos null/null mice are crossed with homozygous knock out mice lacking the OBF-1 transcription factor gene, resultant double knock out mice lack all signs of SLE. Methods of screening for agents active against autoimmune diseases, for example SLE are provided. In vitro methods include screening for antagonists of OBF-1, screening for agents which inhibit binding of OBF-1 to oct-1 or oct-2, screening for agonists or antagonists of Aiolos protein and screening for agents which upregulate expression of Aiolos or downregulate expression of OBF-1. Also disclosed are methods of screening using knock-out mice and B cells from knock-out mice.

    摘要: The sugar mannose has been used to maintain urinary tract health in the face of E. coli infections. An optimal dose is disclosed to be of one teaspoon (two grams) three times a day for one to two weeks or until symptoms subside. The maintenance dosage for prophalaxis is one-half teaspoon (1 gram) 1 to two times per day. Children's dosages are cut in half. For women who experience UTIs after sexual relations, one teaspoon is taken an hour prior to intimate relations and an additional one teaspoon immediately afterwards. It is further disclosed to use any of an extract of Crataeva nurvala, white willow bark, and pollen extract in conjunction with the mannose to provide further effect.
