Abstract: The present invention relates generally to biointerface membranes utilized with implantable devices, such as devices for the detection of analyte concentrations in a biological sample. More particularly, the invention relates to novel biointerface membranes, to devices and implantable devices including these membranes, methods for forming the biointerface membranes on or around the implantable devices, and to methods for monitoring glucose levels in a biological fluid sample using an implantable analyte detection device.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and compositions for monitoring and analyzing nucleic acid hybridization state using L-DNA probes are described. The methods include adding L-DNA probes that can be fluorescently detected to a system including D-DNA. The L-DNA probes include primer, target, and antisense nucleotide sequences, and fluorescent dye compounds. The L-DNA probes are particularly useful for monitoring and analyzing various parameters during DNA amplification using the polymerase chain reaction.

Abstract: The technology provided herein relates to novel human antibodies against Plasmodium parasites, in particular against the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. The present disclosure pertains to antibodies against apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA-1). These antibodies have high affinity e.g. to Plasmodium falciparum schizonts and merozoites, inhibit the reinvasion of merozoites into erythrocytes and thereby neutralize parasitic multiplication.

Abstract: The present invention provides kits and assay methods for the early detection of pathogens, precise identification of the etiologic agent, and improved disease surveillance. More specifically, the present invention discloses an immunoassay leading to the rapid and simultaneous detection of antibodies to a wide range of infectious pathogens in biological fluids of infected patients. This immunoassay involves the covalent and oriented coupling of fusion proteins comprising an AGT enzyme and a viral antigen on an identifiable solid support (e.g. fluorescent microspheres), said support being previously coated with an AGT substrate. This coupling is mediated by the irreversible reaction of the AGT enzyme on its substrate. The thus obtained antigen-coupled microspheres show enhanced capture of specific antibodies as compared to antigen-coupled microspheres produced by standard amine coupling procedures. The methods of the invention possess the ability to multiplex, minimize the amount of biological sample, and have enhanced sensitivity and specificity toward target antibodies as compared with classical ELISA or Radio-Immunoprecipitation assays.

Abstract: Methods and compositions for the detection of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme activity in blood samples are described. Some embodiments disclosed herein provide methods for detecting G6PD activity in undiluted or minimally diluted blood samples, including obtaining a blood sample, and detecting G6PD activity present in the undiluted or minimally diluted blood sample by epifluorescence. Also provided are methods for detecting G6PD activity and detecting a bloodborne microorganism as two parts of a single test.
